if Gaustad and a fourth got a late first, nothing would surprise me at this point. Plus we now have like, 4 3rds right? or am I thinkings 2nds? regardless, we have plenty of picks to throw in with McGinn to a playoff team who wants to win now. He's close to being a 20 goal scorer this year. Don't sell him short to a team that's going for it. - seedy
I can't see that ever happing again imo |

I agree, from all accounts a class player and a better player than many here realize. I hope he returns as a 7th D for us next year. - Slump Buster
That would be cool. |

I think the first for Goose was a wakeup call for GM's. Nothing like that has happened since. |

"Leaf jealousy"? Is there such a thing?
I think you missed the entire point of this write up. He was comparing the Sabres last year to the Leafs this year. Saying that the Canadian media bashed the Sabres for the same thing the Leafs are doing right now but the Canadian media looks the other way when the Leafs are doing it. I really wouldn't call that jealousy. - doppelthat
"I got picked on for doing something and that rich kid is doing the same thing but isn't getting picked on because he is rich and is the centre of the universe wah wah"
Sounds like jealousy to me. |

Was Gaustad a UFA when he was traded? I forget. |

just checked. we have 3 in 2016.
I'm sure McGinn and a 3rd to the right team could net a late round first. Frankly, I'd rather have a prospect or two than a pick at this point. I'd like to see some players in the pipeline for Rochester next year rather than some kid in college we have to wait 4 years for. |

I don't remember if he was a UFA or if he had one more year left. |

Strange how 39 didn't have Weber on his list. I wonder why his "sources" let him down? |

Um, you guys missed out on McDavid. That's all. - charlieb83
Um, and you guys aren't guaranteed better than 4th overall, even if you tank to last place. Again, if you guys are happy building with Marner, Nylander and whatever you get this draft, that is cool. We like our position as well. Until we meet in the playoffs, gfy. |

Nashville also gave up a first last year for Cody Franson. |

You hit it on the head. It's not us (Sabres fans) faulting Toronto for tanking, it's the ridiculousness in the denials of it.
I can "defend" the moves Buffalo made last year (dumping pending FAs, the final goalie after 2 were moved playing better than those that were traded away, etc), but the point isn't the teams tanking, it's the lack of ridicule for Toronto in the media. - stashu
What is with you people putting so much stock in what Toronto media says? They're for the most part a bunch of buffoons. They ripped on the Leafs non-stop until this season. I mean, we're talking about guys like Cox or Feschuk - who effing cares? |

The goal of the tank was to finish last for McEichel.
Yes, I wanted McDavid. But the tank served it's goal. |

No one would have ever predicted it happening before it did, either.
I'm just saying. it can be done. retain salary or take back a garbage expiring contract so he can fit under the cap of a playoff team and throw in a lower round pick and you never know.
From a production standpoint, I think McGinn is actually more valuable than Gaustad was at the time.
Unfortunately, if he goes to a playoff team and does well, we're never going to see him in a Sabres sweater again due to price. But can't blame a guy for accepting money. |

You are completely missing out on my point, but ok.
I have no problem with your tank job and you guys have a bright future. But to start putting down the Leaf's tank job compared to yours is just stupid when you missed out on the one guy your GM had a hard-on for.
Again, I like what the Sabres did and they have a great amount of talent. But don't go putting down others when you didn't even come in first place. If the Leafs get effed and end up with the 4th pick, I can guarantee you I won't stick that in someone's face as proof we tanked well.
And let's be real - the tank job is only good if the result is good, i.e. winning a Cup or at least being a consistent contender. |

IMO you have about five teams that would be willing to part with a blue-chip prospect for a serious run at The Cup this year. Tampa Bay, Washington, St. Louis, Anaheim, San Jose and maybe Los Angeles. I don't know how many more pics that San Jose and Los Angeles have so they might be out. With a ton of seconds, a ton of thirds and players like McGinn and Ennis Murray may be loaded for bear to try and pry Drouin out of Tampa. |

Nobody is putting down the Leaf's tank. At all. We fully support their tank.
It is the perception of how the two are viewed, which you pointed out, should be meaningless. |

What is this whole Sabres fans are jealous because we're rich garbage? You do know our owner is a multibillionaire right? The same guy who prevented Toronto from taking our football team by buying them for 1.4 billion.
P.S. and the word is envious not jealous, there's a difference.

We're happy with Eichel, Reinhart and Risto on the back end and we'll see what goodies we'll get this year.
You guys lost out on McDavid and Eichel. The little guy you got will be a nice player. |

The complaint is that your tank job is viewed as bad and ours as good. Your image suggested the opposite. If I saw it wrong, I apologize. If not, my point stands. |
