You mean to tell me Buffalo is in year 3 of the rebuild, and timed it perfectly, and Toronto is late to the party.
You got me. - ImThatGuy
You guys are missing the point....
The fact that you are obsessing over an article written by a member of the Toronto media is just sad. If someone in Buffalo wrote an article about the Leafs' current tank job, no one in Toronto would care
But you guys are getting all worked up about this. Textbook inferiority complex

Anything said last year should be chalked up to Toronto/Buffalo fan base rivalry. I wouldn't expect any different from the Buffalo fans had the Leafs did it last year first......
Take it with a grain of salt. - Cooshie
The double standard just drives me insane.
The salary cap was supposed to help keep things more even keel around the league, and in some ways, it did help.
But it also made drafting so much more important, especially in getting the high talent at the top. It's highly skilled guys that come with a very cheap price tag for at least 3 years.

I am not mad. What is funny is this.
Last year - Sabres/Coyotes are embarrassment to NHL and should be punished
This year - Leafs losing on purpose with dignity.

Last year the Sabres traded:
Luke Adam
Tyler Myers
Drew Stafford
Jhonas Enroth
Brian Flynn
Torrey Mitchell
Michal Neuvirth
Chris Stewart
and some prospects and picks
I wouldn't call that trading away our best assets... - doppelthat

and uh didn't the Leafs trade away Clarkson last year for a guy that's still on LITR? and has NO chance of playing in the NHL again because the surgery to fix his back would pretty much end his career? weird - Havic3814
Also just acquired Raffi "The Tool" Torres with zero intention of ever bringing him in.

Anyone who listens to the Toronto media deserves to be this worked up regarding the Leafs.
The Leafs are irrelevant, have been for 50 odd years, they shouldn't be getting blogs on Hockeybuzz. I'm perplexed as to why a Buffalo blogger wasted time writing about the Leafs.

did you watch hockey last season when half the media ripped buffalo for their tank job?

Yep.
If the team that a new president/GM takes over has no chance of being a contender with the pieces in place and doesn't align with how you think a contender needs to be built, tear the thing down to the foundation and rebuild. Why toil in suckage indefinitely? The Leafs did that since the early 90s. - magmoo
They went deeper than that. right to the basement. The Leafs had it decorated pretty nice.
