A lot of that has to do with the Pens cap situation. They don't have the space to take on Hartnell and they already have a ton tied up long term.
- PhillySportsGuy

I just thought it was funny coming from somewhere else.

Lots of people had this idea that we could have got a lot more for Hartnell. Also if Umberger was able to pot maybe 10 goals and play a good two way game no one would even talk about the trade.

I haven't heard anything out of Toronto indicating that they're looking at banking on a superstar. Their actions speak otherwise. They're doing exactly what Hexy's doing, just cutting deeper.
- Tomahawk

All the stuff I have read is they think they are getting Matthews and signing Stamkos to be the cornerstones to the future.

I know Toronto could pay the money but I wonder is Stamkos wants to spend his prime years in rebuild mode.

Teams like the Flyers could be attractive as they are closer to actually competing.

How long before they're in the situation (or worse.. probably worse) that the Flyers are just coming out of? Where they have so much money tied up in unproductive contracts and so little room to make moves that they have to blow it up and start over?
- Doc_Sarcasm

Malkin and Crosby have made them competitive despite terrible management. We'll see what happens with Maata this summer. Not sure they can do anything except a bridge deal

They lack a lot of picks too don't they? Not a hundred percent sure on the picks.

They should have gotten more for him, but I'm not going round and round here

Would it?

I mean, I'm sure they'll do well trading one of those 3, but the Pens would probably need to take some garbage in return to even out a trade, cap wise. That is, of course, unless it's a team with absolutely no cap issues. But I think most of those teams meddling with the cap floor don't want to spend the money anyway.

- johndewar

Well it's been said for players of Crosby and Malkin, or even Giroux when morons say trade him, that they wouldn't fetch equivalent value for the reasons you stated, but I think a franchise in a smaller hockey market would gladly take one of Malkin or Crosby just for having a superstar face of the franchise

That's media-driven tho. I haven't heard Shanny or Uncle Lou say... "we're looking to make the PO's, and we feel like we're pretty close."

Like us when Vinny and Pronger were still on the team back in June 2014.

They also can't because it would be tampering talking about a player under contract.

Maybe they should of.

But look now with all the cap questions for next year. Lots of people stated we should have held onto him until this year and tried to move him.

Maybe Hextall was smart to get out in front of it before the cap didn't go where people thought.

Wouldn't need to bring him up by name. Like what Homer said about the reload or whatever. That's the kind of stuff you say when you're getting ready to sign Briere, etc, not suffer through a true rebuild.

Well if they don't the better. Just another team with big cap space with no interest. The less suitors for him the more the price comes down.

weird, there hasn't been endless complaining about Subban's elbow that knocked our captain out with a concussion for multiple games.

I guess we aren't rangers fans

Oh yeah.

Flyers would have won that game last night if Giroux was in the line up BUT HE WASN'T BECAUSE HE HAS AN ELBOW INDENTATION ON HIS FACE

two game sample size is more than enough to determine that we'd be better off without the anchor that our captain has become. absolutely. mmmm hmmmm. yep.
