This was a clear case of cap circumvention allowed by the league. They made up some penalties which were much easier for the Devils to handle.
The LA Mike Richards fiasco was another one. Utter BS how Lombardi made out there.
I would even say Chicago pulled one off last season keeping Kane on IR which gave them the space to sign Vermette and win another Cup. Season ends Kane comes back for the playoffs when there is no salary cap concerns and Vermettehelps them win a Cup. Not saying Kane wasn't recovering from surgery, but the timing of his return allowed them to bring on Vermette. - Marc D
Cap to me is too high as is. When you have quite a few teams with an "internal" number that they stick to.
If the point of the cap was for true financial parity, it should be lowered.

Flyers were allowed to trade a retired player so I can't really complain about all of the circumvention. Having a hard cap with a few loopholes is so much better than the NBA method of taxing and mid level exceptions and the other complicated poop.
I also have three job offers, for which I need the help of you wise folks in reaching my decision.
I have offers from a pretzel stand, a churro stand, and a hot dog stand. I'm leaning churro stand -- it just seems like an exotic opportunity, a chance to see the world that the others don't provide.....but I just don't know.... - Mononoke
I'd choose either pretzel or hot dogs. Churro is just a fad and besides, the other 2 would allow you to branch out into the lucrative field of mustard distribution

Hell I wouldn't ask these clowns for advice on pretty much anything.
Well cept maybe for advice on knowing who is truly elite, they seem to be up on that one. - BiggE
Ask for advice here? Absolutely! Follow advice given here? Probably not. Do the opposite of advice given here? Quite possibly.

I would most like to work with the Ice Girls. But a good number of them are pretty busted in the face. I matched with one of them on tinder, a 19 year old who goes to Drexel, and she told me MDZ constantly hits her up. Playa playa - orangekrush2010
Old friend of mine used to fool with MDZ when he played for Rangers. He asked her to come to Europe during lockout

That was more the NHL's fault for basically hiring him for a position in NHL while still technically a "player"

The whole idea of having to keep players on your salary cap who will obviously never play again is wrong and needs to be fixed. They should be paid what they are owed but the machinations teams have to go through where the salary is counted against the cap until the season starts and then they are put in LTIR is crazy.
The Pronger situation and others like Horton and Marc Savard to me are ridiculous beyond belief.
I don't follow how the nba works and can't comment.

I think at the very least the league could apply a specific cap hit in the event that a team has a player that will never play again. So then they aren't completely off the hook, but it's greatly reduced. they could even make it a % of whatever the existing cap hit is.

There should be a way that if the player is hurt in season that independent doctors can deem a player unable to continue his career. The teams should be able to work out some injury settlement and then move on.
That way the LTIR mockery can end with players everyone knows can't return. But the player would have to retire then. That way it's not like he is hurt and then tries to come back later.

If a guy is truly injured and cannot play why count them at all on the cap?
I guess the concern is faking injury in guys that aren't good anymore but there should be ways to prevent that. Get several independent medical evaluations or something similar.
