What about a "Fenway Dog" where they use a single piece of bread and wrap it around the meat part of a hot dog? - jmatchett383
Sandwich related product. It's kind of like Chicago deep dish "pizza" is to pizza: similar, but not the same.
Because the ends of the dog probably stick out, it does not achieve pastry status. |

Dense philosophical questions/musings I have about sandwiches...
1. Open faced sandwiches are not considered sandwiches. But what about a folded pizza? How does that differ from a hoagie?
2. Many people claim a hot dog isn't a sandwich bc it is not horizontal like a burger or deli sandwich. This is true -- it is vertical. So is a gyro. But does this definition actually hold water? I don't bite into a hot dog vertically; I tilt it horizontally.
3. Ordering "ham" is different from ordering a "ham sandwich." But you call a "hot dog" a hot dog, whether it is just the individual wiener or the wiener on the roll. This differs from ordering a "sausage sandwich," where the word "sandwich" is clearly specified.

This differs from ordering a "sausage sandwich," where the word "sandwich" is clearly specified to distinguish it from the individual sausage. By this logic, a "burger" also belongs in its own unique category.

On old man rant:
Know what else I can't stand? When people add the last word of an abbreviaton after the word:
"PIN Number" = Personal Identification Number Number
"LCD Display" = Liquid Crystal Display Display - jmatchett383
Knowing had badly abbreviations in general trigger you, this must put you at risk for cardiac arrest. |

a sandwich requires two distinct breads (they may be loosely connected at one end). A consistent bread barrier surrounding the contents is a pastry.
Strombolis and pop tarts are the same thing. - BulliesPhan87
So if I put just ketchup on a dot dog bun, is that a sandwich?

I am a diehard fan like a lot of us here but I have to admit the league has really been boring for me to watch and follow (games wise and otherwise) the past few years. Maybe it has been because the flyers have been so mediocre to bad but when I watch any game, for the most part they all seem to be much more boring than in the past. Like when is the last time we got so amped watching a game like when the flyers would play the penguins even back just 8 years ago. - orangekrush2010
This team is very vanilla and I feel like we're headed in a very vanilla direction. I'm excited about the players we've drafted but the expection of more speed and more discipline doesn't have me overly hopeful. I think this might have more to do with what I've seen of Craig Berube and now Dave Hakstol and what both players expect. I do not like their in game decision making. We brought Hakstol in as what? A development Coach? Scott Laughton just had a really good game but I'm only seeing that kind of game from him once out of ten games. Brandon Manning improving nor is he making this team better in anyway.
The last time I was truly excited to be a Flyers fan was the first season I watched the return we got for Carter and Richards on the ice and contributing together. |
