Can a team trade retained salary to open up room to take on more retained salary? - jstross
I don't think so. You're on the hook for what you agreed to with the original trade. |

No.
BUT, there is nothing in the rules that says a third party can't be involved. For example, Flyers trade Streit and two 3rds to TOR. TOR trades Steit with 50% retained to DALLAS for a 1st which goes to the Flyers.
Just an example, but you get the point. |

After seeing the Oilers trade the rights to Phillip Larsen, I wonder if Hextall could flip the rights to Erik Gustafsson for a late round pick.
I remember last summer Gustafsson said he would like to return to the NHL and seeing a team being willing to give up a pick for a similar guy in Larsen makes me think. The Flyers seem to have no interest in bringing him back, and Gustafsson had a decent KHL season, and his numbers look solid playing in the Swiss A-league.
Also, I've been tossing and turning all night and gave up on sleeping, so I figured I'd toss this out here. |

Toss on. How late of a pick do you think he could bring back?
Edit: Would a 5th, the same as Larsen, be enough for you? |

Sure. If the Flyers have no interest in bringing him back, take whatever for him |

I'd be happy for any return on a fringe guy that will likely never suit up for us again. |

If he was in their plans, I'd welcome him back. I was just thinking after the Larsen trade, if he's not in their plans, why not see if anyone is interested. He's said he'd like to come back to the NHL. |
