I am not stuffed yet
- vejim

Well, there's always next year to look forward to. Don't fret, your time will come.

I, however, don't want to be stuffed. I wish to be mummified and placed in the rafters of the WFC, and whenever the Flyers have a must win game, they lower me down in a pregame ceremony and pay homage to me so that I can put an Egyptian curse on the other team.

When is all this silliness going away? If I was John Scott, I would be embarrassed about all the attention, and try to have some dignity. However, in today's media, and greed driven World, I guess it makes sense. I bet if he ran as the GOP nomination, he would get to be President.
- OrangeAndBlack1

John Scott actually turned down a huge chunk of money to appear at the NBA All Star game, saying he was a hockey player, not a basketball player. So I don't think he's out to make a quick buck.

If someone wanted to make a movie about your life, especially if you had gone through the hardships that he has based on his column, I bet you'd love to do it, especially if you'll be paid well for it.

What else would you call earning a college engineering degree while traveling across the country with the rest of your hockey team (he was there on a sports scholarship)? That's ridiculously hard. Never mind the fact that, as a fringe player, he had to move around North America fairly often and had to be able to leave his family at a moments notice depending on whether he was on the AHL or NHL roster any given night.

Thanks. Yeah, I bet that was hard. He was smart to get his education so he'll have something viable when hockey ends. Too many players don't do that.

Not movie-worthy though. Not even 15-minutes-of-fame worthy actually. Lots of people have/had way rougher lives than that.

I wonder if Hakstol considers the Wild to be a "heavy" team, too.

I agree it's not movie worthy. But he isn't like Rudy, running around to every major studio and making up false events to pitch a script. Someone approached him and said, "I'd like to make a movie about you, and pay you for it. Would you like that?" If that happened to almost anyone in the world, they'd probably say yes. So whether or not it's movie worthy, a producer decided that there was enough there to make one.

As for other people having it harder, I agree. But no one wants to see the life story of my dad who, at the age of 60, goes out and works 9 hours a day cutting down and carrying hundred+pound trees all day, because, well, it's boring.

It's kind of like the Gordie Howe movie, Mr. Hockey. It follows a middle-aged man playing pro hockey with his sons. On the surface, it's not very exciting at all, but someone thought it was a good enough feel-good story to put it on film.

And no, I'm not comparing John Scott to Gordie Howe...much.

You can't question that. His Manning/Medvedev shell game is on point.

I'd suggest when the Flyers play an exhibition game against Sumo wrestlers Manning's services may be needed.

I agree.

I wouldn't mind moving forward with Schenn. If his deal is similar to Couturier. I do wonder though what Hextall thinks and maybe to sell high on Schenn might be now. He could provide secondary scoring for a team and is young. I wonder what return you would get.

- J35Bacher

I feel like this is a greedy mindset. What can we get for who? Some players' value is best suited with this team. Brayden Schenn is young and the organization is preaching patience. In my opinion we should identify our core and build around it. Right now I feel like our core is Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, Mason and Gostisbehere. Of course there are players on this current squad who will stay and some who will go but to me, these players I've named we should build around.

Yea why not?

The dude does kinda sorta have a pretty cool story. From a nobody who only dreamed of playing in the NHL, to having one of the greatest hockey weekends anyone could ever imagine.

Honestly, I would even add Del Zotto.

Assuming Read makes it through Monday. His contract isn't too bad, and I believe a team like the Preds is going to be an active buyer at the deadline. Lava knows Read well.

Is Austen Matthews eligible for the Calder next year? The rules are:

"a player cannot have played any more than 25 games previously in any single season, nor have played in more than six games in each of two separate preceding seasons in any major professional league."

However, Gretzky wasn't able to win it despite having only played one professional year before he came to the NHL. In NHL16, he's not eligible for it. Anyone who can shed some light on this would be great.

- jmatchett383

If Panarin is up for it this year, then Matthews would be eligible next year. Panarin played over 50 games in each of the last 5 seasons in the KHL.

I don't know if he's a "core" guy, but he's definitely a player who could help them moving forward.

When we win the lottery and draft Matthews he could be our second Calder winner in a row.

I'm leaning more towards this. I think Matt Read and Michael Del Zotto can both help us but I have them in the category of some might stay and some might go.

It's a joke that he's considered a rookie.
