Goes up as the league minimum goes up. If it goes to 625k the savings will be 1M. Point is still the same. Would you rather save less now or save more now but have him on the books when we need to pay Jack and Sam? - Zschalberg
This I did not know. Thanks! |

A BO of Moulson this summer would result as a $1,445,166.97 cap hit for the next 6 years. Add on Cody's BO and you're over 2 million of wasted cap space. - TheSabresTaco
Yep. I say ride it out. Play him or don't is a different question, but I don't think buying him out is the right decision. |

no wonder Andreychuk is not in the HOF, his 274 pp goals don't mean much - homiedclown
They used to mean a lot. Just not in today's NHL. So he's really not worth a lot. |

Under the 2013 CBA, a team only derives a specific savings from demoting a player on a one-way contract to the AHL. This savings is calculated as league minimum plus $375,000.
So as it goes up so does the savings. With the CA dollar not doing too hot it might not go up much. Could during the duration of the contract, however |

so if you go 0-4 on the pp, the other team goes 1 for 3 and you lose the game 3-2 you get a moral victory because you played even strength ok
got it
- homiedclown
You're getting "that way" again.
If you're not matched to the opponent 5v5 to begin with, you wouldn't lose 3-2, you'd lose 3-0.

Special teams are the cheese and mayo in a good sandwich.
5v5 is the meat and bread.
When teams are closely matched 5v5 (as they generally are by the time you get tot he playoffs and weed out the bottom feeders, its special teams and goaltending that makes the difference. But neither special teams or goaltending will get you there without the 5v5 to begin with. - Der Kaiser

what I get out of this, if your special teams are good, and your not in the final 16 for playoffs then
you have a decent top half and bottom half of your roster but your middle core isn't getting the job done 5 on 5 most nights
(gionta, bogo, larsson, girgens, foligno, kane, ennis, etc)
I would put moulson on that list but he does not play enough and is only a -1 for the season |

49ers GM Trent Baalke said Colin Kaepernick will be on roster April 1, when his $11.9M salary for 2016 becomes guaranteed. Kaep's a Niner. |

I wouldn't put it past Murray to trade Folingo and resign McGinn for more money, solely based on the fact that Murray didn't draft Foligno, and did trade for McGinn.
It's the ego - sbroads24
Or it's the "known" sustainability that McGinn has, rather than the ups and downs of Foligno |

You asked the question, and don't like the answer.
The difference between the best, and worst PP is about a 9% difference. With having about 2-3 PP's a game, how many goals over a whole season does the absolute best PP team, gain over the worst? Maybe 20?
Also, would controlling the play at even strength not lead to more penalties being called against the other team? |

If you're referring to production he absolutely won't be able to sustain it when we're good.
He's just like Parenteau in Toronto and yes maybe even Ennis last year. Inflated stats from playing minutes he would never receive and linemates he should never be with. |

Is McGinn known? He's done well this year but isn't he on pace for a career best?
This reminds me of Stafford... |

I feel like they're just saying 5 on 5 should be the main focus, once you get that taken care of you focus on the special teams. You can be a great team with good 5v5 and bad special teams, but you'll be a bad team with bad 5v5 and good special teams.
It's important, just not THE most important aspect. |

Points in prior seasons:
37
22 (in shortened season)
38
6 last year (injury)
Foligno prior seasons: 13, 18, 19, 15 so far this season
I'd say more known to be able to possess that aspect of his game. He won't be a 4th liner, so solid 3rd, 2nd line fill-in should have him playing with decent enough talent that I'd think he outperforms Foligno. |

That's a hard pill if he is a 3rd liner, as he should be. It's even harder if we want you-know-who in the offseason. |

risto, ror, eichel and kane fixed the need for special teams
now this team is credible in that department and the middle of the roster needs to be upgraded for 5 on 5 play
there is a reason once risto became the main pp qb instead of myers, pp goals started to rise
just like having kane, eichel, reinhart and ror to finish the pp with goals, vs stink, stank, stunk from the last 3 years
that's all I got and I am ready to move on, sort of |
