What's troubling is that the Canes playing well didn't revitalize him. Unless the contract talks -- or lack thereof -- with Francis really set him off. |

I think he'd be revitalized by coming to the Rangers, I do believe that.
the Rangers don't need him to be the answer, but he can did a bit of everything up front. He hits, he takes faceoffs, he's always a factor, gets shots
I am more than happy to have him for a cup run for the right cost - jimbro83
I have serious doubts about this. I'm envisioning Holik 2.0 |

Again, it's all about the price. Paying a premium hoping that him coming to New York will revitalize him, I agree, is stupid. Paying a Ryan Clowe type price for a player that is not what he used to be, but still can be pretty good, I can live with. |

Holik 2.0 would be signing him to a 7 year 77 million extension
We are talking about hopefully 3+ months of effective hockey |

Holik was different. With Holik, the Rangers acquired a player that was a certain type of player his entire career, and expected him to be something different just because they paid him a lot. With Staal, it would be acquiring a player that you know is diminished as a rental. All comes down to price.

If by some crazy chance they end up dealing Buchnevich and a 1st...you will have to feel my laughter-wrath forever. - eichiefs9
If they do that, the language I use in my blog likely will get me a permanent ban |

Put this way, I think Eric Staal would make Nik Antrapov look like HHOF when he spent 21 games with the Rangers. |

It's funny how we never discuss what the return would be.
What if the return for Buchnevich and a 1st was really damn good? |

The depth down the middle he would provide for us along with Stepan and Brassard is definitely Cup-worthy |

The return would have be a young player who's really good. Like Mark Scheifele(that's just an example.) |

They could trade Ryan Bourque and a 2nd for him and I think people would still think it's a bad deal. |

Kevin Hayes is better than Eric Staal at this current time. |

If we wanna go for it we gotta go for it...a half ass move like acquiring a Matt Cullen for the 4th line isn't gonna do anything to increase our chances to win. |

So play Hayes on Staal's wing or something |

Staal on this team forces Glass out of the lineup

This Jimbo, this. Everyone is forgetting how good E Staal was. He's not injured, not old, plays the type of game we need. He's simply tired and done with the Hurricanes franchise. He has no drive to play there anymore. I see a similar situation with how Nash was in Columbus, but Nash still had a little heart left there, not as deflated as Staal. And's he's won a cup. We keep bringing in the same kind of players and the type that we keep missing out on is that dominant physically big forward with elite skill. Staal can finish, I would be really excited to see what he could do surrounded by the playmaking talent of this team.
Don't talk about Drury, Holik, etc.... E Staal is not even in the same category when it comes to what he brings on the ice. |

as we know, injuries happen in the playoffs, it's a long grind to win the Cup. If they think the are going for it all again the depth up front has got to be improved. |

I actually agree with you. No half measures. Either you want to give this thing a real run in this spring, or go the other direction and trade Yandle, and start to re-stock a little.
