I think you can stop using terms like our and we when it comes to discussing the Rangers. We all know you clearly hate them, think your name gives it away, so desist insulting Rangers fans by using word association. |

Staal this year is less of an offensive weapon then a retired Holik - mdw7413
This board has an obsession with Eric Staal the likes of which I have never seen. This isn't 2011 its 2016. He is on a team with his brother that is on the cusp of the playoffs and he is not performing. Facts are Facts

Who's obsessed with Eric Staal? I think most are generally concerned Gorton is going to do something foolish like acquire him. |

Yup. I don't have a problem if they give up peanuts and he walks at the end of the season. Usually that isn't the Rangers way. Give me some young potential or a decent player with some term and I have no problem losing a 1st or a prospect.. etc |

Granted we didn't start talking Eric Staal till recently. I blame you. |

Drouin, Nichuskin or nobody. The rumored rental names leave a lot to be desired. |

I think people aren't grasping the concept that everyone here who is open to acquiring Eric Staal only wants to do so if it's for a 2nd a mid tier prospect at most. Nobody is comfortable trading a 1st or Skjei/Buchnevich/Gropp. |

it's definitely a topic, it's the trade deadline, he's a pending UFA, he's won a cup and his name is linked to the Rangers. It isn't something we are inventing on hockeybuzz |

If you think Carolina is letting Staal go, for mid tier assets, you need to lay off the peyote.
If Ladd's rumored ransom of a first round pick plus, is true, what do you think Staal's ransom is going to be? |

Nobody, I think he is aging and his best days are behind him. If we were talking about a younger version its a different story. I'd rather see the Rangers go out and get a younger player who is showing promise (and I'm not referencing any specific player, just speaking in general) than an older one with the hopes that he somehow gets electrified when he steps foot in NY like he is plugged into the NYC power grid. |

Carolina is a team that cannot afford to lose Staal for nothing this summer too though. Caroline's leverage is only weakened by the fact that Staal has a NTC too.
But hey, if it really is a 1st and top prospect, then move along and find a different deal. It's that simple. |

People probably thought Gabby was done until the Kings acquired him and he helped lead them to the SCF again |

Team has drastically overachieved, they are dancing on the playoff bubble and Staal's producing at third line levels.
The rental market is awful if Eric Staal is the prize. |

You're right; if we are talking about a younger version, it is a different story...because he'd be unavailable unless we want to trade McDonagh for him.
I think of the Rangers wanna go for it, get the best available guy you can with a package of a 2nd and Tambellini. If they feel that's too rich for a playoff rental, then deal Yandle and recoup assets. Go one way or the other...not halfway. |

Ok, and I will start naming all the busts that teams thought still could play.
My opinion is he is done. Nothing will change that unless he actually got here and played well. |

Carolina is also a team overachieving this season and are in line to be rebuilding for at least another few seasons. They are not going to lose Staal for nothing; they'll re-sign him if anything as he is their captain after all.
The Rangers also have a terrible history of overpaying for players beyond their peak. Throw in the fact their much discussed "window" of cup contention is closing and their need for another top six forward to ensure another postseason run is a dangerous, dangerous combination. |

This I agree with. Either sell off what you can, or add. Don't get stuck in between. |
