People probably thought Gabby was done until the Kings acquired him and he helped lead them to the SCF again - rangerdanger94
Aside from those two months, in the spring of 2014, he essentially has been on a steep decline since 2013. |

You're right; if we are talking about a younger version, it is a different story...because he'd be unavailable unless we want to trade McDonagh for him.
I think of the Rangers wanna go for it, get the best available guy you can with a package of a 2nd and Tambellini. If they feel that's too rich for a playoff rental, then deal Yandle and recoup assets. Go one way or the other...not halfway. - rangerdanger94
That's fine but now look at it from Carolina's point of view:
An average prospect who might be a third liner and a 2nd round pick??
Thanks but no thanks.
Its a moot point. |

Ok, and I will start naming all the busts that teams thought still could play.
My opinion is he is done. Nothing will change that unless he actually got here and played well. - mdw7413
He hasn't sniffed the 30 goal mark since 2010-2011. |

Exactly what I said the other day. Go all in for a decent top 6, or a highly touted younger player with potential. Thats where I stand |

A 2nd and a prospect, or nothing because Staal decides he wants to play for a different team to try and win one more Cup |

Oh, and he has to be a selfish shoot 1st top 6 player. |

How did you come up with the idea Carolina will deal Staal for that combination? |

I said it before, and I'll say it again, Drouin, Nichuskin and/or1st round picks or don't even bother at this deadline. |

I'm not sold on Drouin, but I have come around a little bit on it and would be fine if they went that way. |

Drouin isn't a shoot first player. Also hasn't look the same since being away from Mackinnon. |

Point being, go for a young asset to build going forward, not a rental that won't even solidify their status as cup favorites this season. |

Who do you want to trade for? - rangerdanger94
Teddy Purcell, Grabner and Kris Russell while trading Yandle, we don't need a name to get over the top, the only way I'd take Staal is for peanuts and even then I think he best days were years ago |

Purely hypothetical. It's a "best case scenario" from our perspective but also unrealistic obviously. |

my wish list for Deadline day:
1 - Drouin
2 - Nichuskin
3 - Staal
I think Stall costs the least. I am also praying and hoping that Buchnevich comes over soon. Adding Buch and a Staal would do wonders.
Trade Yandle for a 1st, mid prospect and 3rd line replacement Dman(since AV clearly doesn't like McIlrath)
Trade package from Yandle trade minus Dman for Staal. I don't expect Staal to be a top line player, I expect him to be a pretty good 2nd/3rd liner who has extra motivation playing for a cup with his brother. with this I am ok. |

Nobody, I think he is aging and his best days are behind him. If we were talking about a younger version its a different story. I'd rather see the Rangers go out and get a younger player who is showing promise (and I'm not referencing any specific player, just speaking in general) than an older one with the hopes that he somehow gets electrified when he steps foot in NY like he is plugged into the NYC power grid. - MiloslavHorava
Who did we trade for before the 94 Cup? Staal is a former #2 overall pick. If we acquired a younger 90pt version of him, it would cost us 2 1st rounders, a 2nd rounder, and probably 2 good prospects. |
