So back when this was announced he couldn't make the Oiler defence last season. You guys really think he's going to help our blue line?

Very odd moves leading up to the TDL.

Shink for Granlund.
5th for Larsen.

Almost seems as though Benning is thinking about next season as opposed to next Monday.

I am of the opinion that there is more outrage/confusion to come.

I try to be and I think I am this time. If they don't get some value for Hamhuis and co I'm gonna put it square on Trever Linden. And as I said we may not lose the shink trade but there is no upside
- Bieksa#3

Unless Shink doesn't make the show.... in which case.... any games played by Granny is the upside......

IDK, I didn't expect much from Hutton this year either.

Yeah, why give up a 5th for a KHL'er who couldn't make the Oilers and then give an incentive to make it a 4th, huh?

We're not talking about a college prospect, he has almost 100 NHL games between Dal and Edm and couldn't make it.

coilers Qualified him, he didn't sign it, thus he is a RFA who whent to the K to make his money rather then ruin his career by playing Defence in Edmonton(see Schulz for ruined D's).

"TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that Vancouver intends on giving Larsen a NHL contract on Jul. 1 and having him on the NHL roster for the 2016-17 season"\

Defense is officially fixed

For my money, a depth player(granlund) can be picked up off waivers. If Shink doesn't ever develop we still didn't gain anymore then a waiver quality player for him so nothing gained

If he was that good, he would've come back to the NHL this year. We might as well look at the Marlies farm team for dmen it's probably as good.

Oilers aren't to be trusted as fine purveyors of defensive talent. Maybe the fact they didn't keep him should be considered a positive sign.

Perhaps....
But then again, at the same age Granny put up more points in the A then Shrink has.
What I think is that that trade was made so that they could put J.Mac in the minors next year and hope Granny turns into a serviceable bottom 6 Center, think Vey but with skill.

He bolted for the khl. He rejected the qualifying offer. His advanced numbers suggest he's better then almost every D man in edm(although a small sample size) his offense stats are almost double Schultz's, and at worst he can't be worse defensivily. It just simply isn't possible

Point #1
If they don't get value for Hamhuis you will blame Linden...wtf does that mean? What if he doesn't waive his NTC? What if his value is a second round pick? How does Linden control the market? They clearly want to move him (if you have been paying attention the last two weeks) but it's somewhat out of their hands. Also your previous comment re. Trading Horvat for a rental was idiotic. I'll assume you had a tough day or are being sarcastic
Point #2
There is no upside to the Shink trade? According to Bieksa#3 the master scout? What if Shink flops (I believe he will) and never becomes a full time pro and Granlund graduates to the top 6. I admittedly haven't watched enough of Granlund to know one way or another who wins this trade a few years down the road. Nobody does

According to Larsen's agent the Oilers wanted him to come back but he wasn't comfortable returning to the organization.

Can't, he didn't want to ruin his career as a coil defender, can you blame him?
Also a 5th conditional on us signing him, which we may not isn't really giving up anything for him.
The 4rth that is conditional is based on him racking up points, so if it turns into a 4th then we've won this trade.

Why are people confused about the timing of this transaction? It's a 2017 pick so it won't effect any trade deadline transactions. If they see a guy they are interested in for next year they don't have to wait until the summer to make a deal! I (frank)ing hope they work the phones 365 days a year
