That's what I am complaining about. They say one thing and do another. Benning loves picks but ships them off. They swear on draft and develop but we are shipping picks. I will continue to trust the brain trust it's just confusing - Codes1087
Late pics usually... and for the 2nd rounders mostly for young players that show upside... think for a minute what you want out of the draft,,, young players with potential.
People still say we had no 2nd last year. I say we got Beartchi out of the 2nd... and most GM's wouldnt be disappointed when looking at his improvements and impact late this season.
The contradiction people are seeing is nowhere near what they claim. JB is doing what he always said he wants to do... fill in the generation gap. What good is a team full of 19 and 20 year olds and a bunch of over 30 year olds and nothing in between....
If JB isnt shopping for picks... it's for young players with upside... he has said that numerous times. He's done that numerous times. Whats to be confused about?

So hammer said he hasnt been asked.... and the list of available doesnt include him. Both in line.
So why does he need to talk to his wife about options then? Not consistent.
Unless its in case there is a last day decision Im guessing - SMBDragon
Just because he hasn't been asked doesn't mean he hasn't been asked if he'd waive if a deal happened.
Eg; dan, will you wave to go to team x?
That is asking to waive.
Eg2; dan, we're gonna shop you and ask you to waive ok?
it was a fifth, for a guy with some upside and NHL XP. Seems like a good move to me. I don't buy that he wont be trading for picks, not very consistent with wanting to draft and develop guys. - neem55
Come on... we have our own picks. Just because we may not trade our bait for picks doesnt mean we wont make our own picks and develop them...sigh...

Sure. It just also means that more picks are better, since the odds of more guys making it out of the draft into the lineup the are increased by more picks. I'm fine with the trades he has done, just hope he is able to get some picks too.

Canucks ahead of Shink . Danny Sven UFA LUcic Etem Gaunce Rodin.
We picked up a RHD , something we seriously need, we need a PMD point producing. Ouch we gave up a fifth.
Preaching drafting and developing and then trading prospects and picks goes against what they are telling people Is all. I trust benning and staff know more than myself and the people on these boards so I will continue to trust him it's just hard to buy into the direction they promise people when it seems to change all the time - Codes1087
Are we not developing the young players that have come back in many of these trades? Are we not going to be at the next draft making selections?
I think much of your confusion comes from not being able to accept that these statements do not mean that they will never trade picks and or young players.... he's not doing the Gillis and trading picks for guys who retire the following season is he? Sutter was the exception... and he is in his mid 20's and still has room to improve... and brings the ability to teach and mentor the younguns once we lose the Sedins.
I would love o see this contract that Benning must of signed with the fans promising he'd never do any of these things. He says he wants to do this and that but sometimes there are going to latteral moves and moves trying to jump forward that dont work out. Please accept that we are not going down the same road that Toronto and Calgary did by trading the future to stay competitive and thus being stuck in no mans land for a decade. This team has said it wont do that and none of he moves reflect that....

Nope, the sky I'd falling. Benning is just the worst. Any other gm would have one the cup by now. Trevor is the worst Vantel would have one the cup by now.
Cue MJ freak out

It's not really that confusing and the message has been consistent in my opinion. They want to get younger and faster. They want to make hockey trades. Since they took over they have constantly been trading for and targeting players in the age range 21-25. At the same time they have been keeping "most" of their picks and loading up on solid prospects. The idea is when the Biesers and Virtanenes are 22-23 (and still cheap) there will be a new core of veterans (not old like the current core) to hopefully challenge for a cup. The plan makes perfect sense and they have preached the same thing 100's of times.
They do want to accumulate picks but if they can acquire a young undervalued stud then the rebuild is expedited.

No one can say picks you havent made yet have a better chance at making the NHL than the players traded for that are near NHL ready or in the NHL now. So many of these traded pics are not actually a void and still serve the direction JB says he's going.
We are getting younger... just because we take a player that is 1 year older than the guy he was traded for or 20 over 18 years old doesnt mean contradiction. We can get younger without turning this team into a bunch of infants.
