Don't see band aids. More like making small patches along the way to make sure the patient doesn't bleed to death. Then again, I guess since I started this metaphor it can now be used anyway depending on your perspective. - bazz

So we are in agreement then. Benning at some point in time will be a moron. |

Benning just told Bob Mackenzie who they are shopping and Hamhuis nor Vrbata were on the list. So in case you didn't know, the last 2 weeks have been nothing but speculation
Mike weber just got a 3rd. My spidy sense tells me hamhuis is better. And Hamhuis has said he hasn't been approached about being traded.
Anything else? (frank) off with the kool aid drinking bullshlt. - Bieksa#3
Ok first off. Hammer and Varby both hold NTC. Hammer has a NMC. Varby a limited NTC. If Benning sends a fax to any team that Hammer is available for trade then it is a violation of Hammer's rights. NHLPA will file a grievance and will win thus Canucks getting fined and possibly losing picks. Not to mention any respect of other UFA's that we would want to sign.
I asked this before and nobody seemed to know the answer. What is the process to dealing with NMC contracts that you are trying to trade?
Does JB go to ask Hammer if he wants to get traded or does he wait till he gets an offer and takes it to Hammer to see if he is ok to go there.
Either way as a player Hammer signed a contract in good faith and now we fans are all over him for holding to his contract? Would you rather have a Kovy situation.
Long story short there is no easier way of telling all the teams that we are sellers. Provide a list of all the scraps we are selling. Does JB lose anything? Nope
The list includes UFA's that he has no intention of bringing back. And some players signed to term that he does not want to bring back either. Higgins. He loses nothing other then signaling we are open for business.
Read between the lines. If I am a GM in playoff contention is see this fax, my first action will be to pull in my scouts and look at Nucks roster. Who can I have. Then my call to JB will be I am not interested in Weber or Bart but I am interested in Hammer. Here is what I am prepared to offer.
Now on the Shink trade. Well there is a reason why his home team passed him over twice. 23 other gm's also passed him over. Even though drafted in 1st he could not crack and anemic Vancouver offense for more then a game yet players like Friesen and Greenier got more time. He just did not have the future here. If you need to learn about Shinks scouting then I suggest you listen to the podcast of Burke (comets play by play guy) who has watched every second of his game to know Shink was more then 2 years away from even cracking an NHL lineup. If JB had been trying to trade him for a year and the best we got was Granny explains a lot of what every other GM in this league thinks of him.
Granny pickup is a great pickup IMO. We get a 2nd rounder that is advanced in his development coming into RFA will be cheap and can play 3/4 c or wing. This explains why Vey and Cracknell are expandable. It also allows JM to develop better. If he needs more seasoning then he can spend next season in Utica and grow.
The mass hysteria in this board is baffling to me. The team hired a pro and are paying him millions of dollars to make rational moves to improve this team now and for future.
What we see is 1 move and the sky is falling. |

Yeah, why give up a 5th for a KHL'er who couldn't make the Oilers and then give an incentive to make it a 4th, huh? - allsports
The chances of a 5th rounder making the payoffs is less then 10%. We take that and convert it to 100% is a good move. Larsen's offensive matrix is off the charts and would be the best D on Oilers. He has played for WD in Texas and WD relied on him heavily. There is no downside to this. The guys is 27. Just about to hit prime for NHL D. Maybe he becomes a regular 3 pairing it will give time for Pedan and Tree to develop. buy additional year of 2 or development. |

Discontent is fine. Disagreement good too. Hair on fire is a little much. Also this whole thing is a process and we won't know for a while how it goes. It is like watching a surgeon undertaking a long and difficult surgery and having some guy who watched a few episodes of ER screaming at the beginning of the operation, "the surgeon's an idiot, he just cut the guy open and made him bleed." - bazz

Let's be serious here. Almost every move JB has made has been met with TONS of criticism and angst.
However, Most of these moves seem to be panning out. Let's give this Granlund move time. It sure seems like a safe move. His numbers were as good or better than Shinkaruk in the AHL.
That being said, I wanna see a move at the TDL that is a clear win from the get go for VAN. It doesn't look like JB wants just picks for guys like Hamhuis. (even tho he loves the draft)
So lets hope he can get a guy like Honka or Lindell out of Dallas. Altho, more may have to be added along with Hamhuis to get that done.

Coffee related question. I was 5 for 7 in roll up to start the season. I am now at an overall 6 for 33. WTF.

So how's it going in here today? Are we freaking out over trades Benning has made or freaking out over trades he hasn't made yet? |

If you can't/didn't see that you are a moron.
5th rounders don't matter, how do you not understand that? - Whiskey-Tango
We've had 2 prominent NHLers in Benn and Gallagher that we plucked right out of our own backyard 5th rounders.
Thank Jebus there is a game tonight; we'll have a completely different trainwreck to talk about.

Ya thats why I said "most" That was a clear patch job to help an injured D core. Not happy about that one. But Forsling is a ways away. Actually this Larsen trade is to patch up the f*** up of putting Corrado on waivers. Could use him right now.

admittedly, I didn't watch the Habs v Caps last night, but just heard Holtby let in 3 of 19 shots and was terrible... never saw the highlights, just heard it mentioned last night and repeated again this morning...
maybe they were terrible goals and the 16 saves were all shots from the blue line with no screens... just sounds funny to be called terrible, letting in 3 off 19 shots...
