I think we all get soo bent out of shape regarding the trading of prospects because the Gillis era was sooo terrible at drafting OR traded away picks that its finally getting exciting to know that a former pro scout is leading the charge. Suddenly the fanbase is fascinated and interested in who is being picked and keeps tabs on their progress. I wasn't half as interested in the Gillis era because they were all borderline terrible and didn't pan out. Again, I am not upset at all over the Shink trade, I think with all the negatives surrounding his game, I think this is a great move. I just wish we gave him more of a shot at the NHL level to see what he had before shipping him off. - Codes1087
Edit; spelling
I'm just waiting to lol at the mass hysteria when we trade vey for a 5th round pick.
'Oh my god, jb is such a (insert idiot idiom here.), can you believe that he traded a 2nd for a 5th, like omfg guys!
Is gonna be epic. |

I completely understand your perspective regarding giving the kid a longer audition in the NHL. The thing is, Green, Weisbrod, Linden and Benning have seen him play 40-50-60 times against pros in Utica. They had seen enough to formulate an option that he won't succeed in the NHL. Are they right? I have no idea. But I do know they can assess talent better than any of us. The downside to giving him 20 games in the show (post trade deadline) is he puts up 3 points and a -15 and his value is reduced. They didn't want him so they dumped him as soon as they received an offer they could live with. Time will tell |

I find it more fascinating that the consensus is that JB can draft really well. It is his strongest suit, but suddenly after the player is drafted, his evaluating skills go to poop and doesnt know what he's giving away and getting - WhiteLie
You are absolutely correct, that is more fascinating. It's like he can only evaluate kids from age 15-18 and is a clueless moron as soon as a prospect hits 19. How can people be so stupid? |

They seemed interested in Hamhuis but less interested in Vrbata. How would they make the cap work if they are taking on$9M plus? - Canada Cup
take Bickel back and retain 50% of Varby. |

There's no other way for the 'Hawks to take on BOTH Vrbata and Hamhuis without Bickell going the other way. $9.5 million is a HUGE cap figure to absorb, and right now the 'Hawks have $4.5 million (and will be a little over $6 million once Kruger is LTIR'd). The math wouldn't work out. Hamhuis is the more intriguing option of the two, and perhaps a deal gets done for him. HIGHLY doubt both Vrbata and Hamhuis are going to Chicago WITHOUT Bickell going the other way. It's just not fiscally possible. - TommyHawk
Dan Hamhuis remaining cap #'s
Accumulated Daily Cap Hit: $3,411,290
Remaining Daily Cap Hit: $1,088,710
Radim Vrbata's remaining cap #'s
Accumulated Daily Cap Hit: $3,790,323
Remaining Daily Cap Hit: $1,209,677
$2.3 million dollars for the rest of the season is what's required for space. |

Wrong, wrong, so wrong.
C'mon, we are like the gold standard of assessing talent.
Collectivism has shown that the 50 or so of us are together more likely to be better at anything then any one or two people.
I don't know about you but when I play NHL 15 gm mode with trades set to easy I make way better deals then jb.
My scouting staff of totally boss as well, I have picked up a elite centre in the second round, like a champ. |

I don't believe it matters Marwood. You can retain 3 salaries at a time - luo, Hammer, Virby - and two of these guys come off the books in June. It would have no long term consequences. Now retaining salary on guys w term remaining is a different story |

We've had 2 prominent NHLers in Benn and Gallagher that we plucked right out of our own backyard 5th rounders.
Thank Jebus there is a game tonight; we'll have a completely different trainwreck to talk about. - PetrolSexual
People dont seem to understand that 30 teams passed up on guys like Zetterberg/benn/datsyuk it was luck that got them the rights before the players picked it up a notch. Getting tired seeing this rofl, we got the rights to a servicable AHL/maybe nhl defenseman for a 5th round pick. Good deal in my book. Though I havent been too hot on JBs decisions lately, just give the guy a chance, he has some pretty tricky pieces to move and you all expect him to land like tyler seguin, when our best assets right now are hamhuis/vrbata... keep dreaming. MG left JB with a terrible roster, give him 2 more years. |

Vrbata is signing back in ARI in the summer anyway. I have seen reports that his family didn't adjust well to the move and they all really liked growing up in Arizona. What kind of package would CHI offer though, you can't pull a fast one on Bowman... - Codes1087
Almost 10m in salary too, I dunno, bickell would probably have to come back :/ |

This guy knows what's up, every time there's a call up (like friesen) Trev asks Travis Green who his best player is, Shinkaruks name was never mentioned and he was their leading point scorer. So something was obviously wrong with Hunter's game. |

It's not 10 million in salary, they're not paying them from the beginning of the year, they're paying them for the remaining month and a half in the season…which is around 2 million dollars combined. |
