Only one has true speed. Besides Kane, Jack and the injury-plagued Ennis, we are a slow team. I gotta think/hope GMTM recognizes that and fixes it going forward.

Speed is useless without control. Don't have to search too far to see that in the Sabres past players.

Ex: MAX , Mike Ryan, ...

There's something about all this Stamkos talk that I don't like.

First of all, while he's a very good player, I don't think he should be getting paid the same as guys like Kane and Toews.

Secondly, I'm not sure how I feel about all the "I want to play center" which then changes to "I want to play wing" which then changes back to "I want to play center" stuff.

It's just my opinion, and I'm sure I'm about to get roasted for actually putting it out there. But, there it is. It's just a gut feeling I have.

I feel it's gotten overblown
He hasn't pouted, or tweeted about it, or even publicly complained
The only thing I've seen was last year when he was asked he said he preferred center bc that's where he's played his whole life & was comfortable there, but he'd do whatever the team needed
And he was great in the playoffs last year on the wing
Even when he struggled to score early on, he was playing good defense & throwing hits all over

He seems like a team player to me
Although who knows what actually went on between the scenes


As far as the $$$ goes...
Toews & Kane signed their deals 2 summers ago,
So I don't think it's a fair comparison
If he signed his deal then, he'd prob have been around 8.5ish

I get what you're saying,
But prices for elite players go up every year
That's just gonna be the price of doing business

I think he might use the Leafs as leverage to get around 12mil though
I wouldn't like that,
But I'd still prob be ok with it
Our offense will be dynamic with him
I can understand ppl who wouldn't wanna pay that much though

This has made me wonder for a while now if winning the first pick is actually a good thing for us. We know matthews is the best player in the draft, but is he a better winger than Laine or Puljujarvi?

He/she still has quick and 3 skaters to go tonight, while i only have one(mcdavid). Elliot was injured which helps me big time this week because he was playing lights out.

It is going to come down to sunday and my goalies, which were disappointing last night. He/she has 13 skaters to my 9 on sunday, it is a little too close for comfort.

I think that's the point most of us are making. I know that's the point I'm making. When/if he gets to pick which team he goes to, he'll pick where he knows he'll be the number one center and has the best chance to win. Chemistry is a huge part of it, when players aren't happy they don't perform. Having 3 legitimate 1C doesn't work, because it likely means you've skimped elsewhere, or have a very short window. There's only so much ice time to go around. Teams have to be 4 line teams in today's NHL, gone are the days where you just throw your top 2 lines out there and some 3rd line with 4th line guys getting 4 minutes at best.

And it's not that I wouldn't want to pay him that much, but I think $12 is a skosh high. It's that in two years when Jack is due, and giving him ROR money, we'll likely have ~$25 million for three centers and that's "just" $10M for Stamkos, and I don't think he signs for anything under Kane/Toews unless he resigns in Tampa I can see him giving them a very slight discount. That's way too much. Pittsburgh is only at $20M for their top 3C. And LA is the next closest at just under $20M starting next year.
