No kidding. I always get my Irish defensemen mixed up....

But really, we dealt McNABB and a couple picks, and the kid is pulling top pair minutes on a top team.

Pysyks ability did not just evaporate in the last month since coming back from injury....something is rotten in Denmark and if we trade Pysk in a package for, say, Eberle or another decent D comes back, I will not lose sleep. But if he's moved a la said Irishman and we get another Fasching back, I Will lose more sleep than sobriety is causing me to now.

- LandlordTom

Unless Fasching pans out. McNabb would not be a top 2 defenseman here. He's a good player there because he's also surrounded by good players in LA. Here he'd be another good piece but let's not say we traded away a top 2 guy. I'm not saying I like/dislike the trade, just not going to say that he's a top 2 defenseman.

Agreed. Everyone falls in love with a guy who works his tail off, but it won't last, he's just trying to make an impression. He reminds me of Foligno when he got his first call ups.
- sskkoo1

Everything I've seen about the kid says the way that he's succeeded in all levels is by working hard and skating hard. Not discrediting that he's going to have extra motivation in his first NHL call-up, but there's not much to indicate that he's going to start gliding

I like how you dream, but I can't see most of this happening. I expect 2, maybe 3 more trades this year and none of them blockbusters. Same with the offseason. We sign 1 defenseman and that's it most likely. Main way we get better is by the players we have progressing/playing full seasons.
- Zschalberg

I think they draft in the top 3

Out of the bold statements the one with the least odds of happening is the Drouin trade IMO

Without looking into the cap situation:

Trade Foligno and Pysyk for Fowler
Trade Ennis and Fasching for Drouin + cap hit (not Callahan)
Trade McGinn for a prospect and pick
Trade Johnson for best offer
Trade Franson for best offer

Draft top 3, sign Stamkos, sign a depth blue liner

Kane ROR Reinhart
Drouin Eichel Stamkos
Draft Pick Girgensons Bailey
Deslaueris Larsson Gionta
Moulson

Risto Fowler
Bogosian McCabe
Gorges FA signing
Cap hit from Tampa (Carle)

Lehner
Ullmark

- Stripes77

I'd be good with that, however IMO Kane is not 1st line material and was playing much better on the 3rd...so switch your lineup to shoe Kane as 3rd line LW and the top 3 draft pick as 1st line LW.
Other than that, I would be interested to see what that team plays like

I would say the Drouin Eichel Stamkos line eventually takes over as the true 1st line.

That was just to start next season. Give the kid (draft pick) some time to get his feet wet!!!

I do like the idea of a Kane Girgensons Bailey line down the road

Kovalchuk has told SKA that if he's not on roster in two days time he's terminating his contract and heading to North America

Another key would be to have the whole group as posted HEALTHY.

Will we ever ice a full healthy roster ?

Couldn't agree more.

They are at best complimentary players on good teams.

Seriously, nothing made me laugh harder than when Schopp said Pysyk was more important to this team than Sam Reinhart and Evander Kane.

IMO Pysyk could be a fine #4, but I would have no issue using him as a chip to get a top 2 defender or top 6 winger.

- sbroads24

Spot on with all points.
Also people may not always agree with Bylsmas lines but unlike Rod and Ted I do think he knows each player and will try to put them in the best place for them to succeed.
When pysyks ready im sure Dan will know before we all do

Healthy? What does that mean?

Not to mention what I posted a lot of trades would have to go down! I have no idea what the asking price for Drouin and Fowler is.

I'd say the Stamkos signing is more far-fetched but that's splitting hairs.

At this moment I believe we have a 9.5% chance at #1. The best chance we would have to win 2nd would be 14.375%. At that point our top chance to get 3rd is still only 22.5%. Not only that, but there's a 45% chance that someone below us wins the 1st spot and can knock us down even more. So the odds are against us getting that top 3 atm. A few losses and some help, sure. But if it's top 5 I'll be happy.

assuming the nhl lets him back

Wyshynski correctly explained that for him to return to the NHL as a free agent - his contract with the Devils was voided with his voluntary "retirement" - there are only three ways for him to return.

1. All thirty teams would grant permission to return to the NHL. He would be a free agent.

2. Kovalchuk can sit out a year and not play hockey anywhere. After then, only the Devils need to grant his permission to return to the NHL. He would be a free agent.

3. Kovalchuk would wait until he's 35. At that point, he's free to come back without any permission. That would be the 2018-19 season, or two years after the speculated season he's considering leaving the KHL.

Wouldn't be too surprised if he got back this way. Also wouldn't be surprised if the NHL just let him back in without him doing any of these. They gave the Devils back their pick so I wouldn't be shocked if they went back on their discipline with this too.

Not now but in the off season if Stamkos was a no go I would consider it, he would look good on Eichel's wing
