Because I suspect the 1rst paired with a player might be able to snag a defender better than Hamonic.
Too bad Benning doesn't have an elite defender to deal. |

That player that you mention would be approaching elite. There's one level above a player like Hamonic. The deal tha Hamonic is on plus that fact I'm assuming he'd want to play in Edmonton, imo makes it an elite value for the oilers. Hamonic and mcdavid can be linchpins |

If the Oilers trade their lottery pick + a top prospect, they'll land a #1 or #2 dman(which everyone knows they need).
If they feel they can still cheap out, then they deserve to get NOTHING. |
