You aren't giving him a fair shake in this. He signed a NTC. He hasn't been asked to do anything nor has management even approached him about a potential trade and you are wanting him to prepare himself to be traded even though he is protected from it? People can speculate all they want about players with NTC until they are blue in the face, but in the end its up to them. - Codes1087
You're right...it's just frustrating that he's the one chip the Canucks have to move this thing forward and it's not even remotely clear if they can use it. |

Hansen for Vatanen
We have Sutter coming back Next year to play with the Twins.
We have Rodin to be signed, and Gaunce to be promoted. Don't hang on to Hansen , his value will never be higher. - VANTEL
That's not enough. Rarely do I over evaluate Canucks (yeah, right) but he is on a great contract and scores with and without the Sedins and is a good age....
A one for one is not good enough. IMHO

Ummm I think it would take MORE than just Hansen to get Vatanen. |

Like I said before, If he's not willing to take a chance at a cup, I don't want to resign him. It would be obvious to every one that he's not in it for the cup, just the money. |

is being in it for the stability and family life the same as being in it for the money? |

For me, I understand he has the right to refuse a trade, it was negotiated, it is in the contract. It might be a little disappointing, but ho hum.
What I can't understand is the notion that he would be shocked if he was asked to waive. Unless he was told earlier in the season or previously that he was in the long term plans of the club and is expecting to resign in the summer.

these guys look at all the angles to maximize profits for and from their players, they are aware he is in the last year of his deal and all the options or scenarios that could increase his value... surely they must talk to their clients about options and strategies for future contracts. |

We traded Bonino who got 22 goals with ANA on a EXTREMELY cap friendly contract for an RFA in Sutter.
Theodore is not going anywhere. The reason Vatanen and Fowler's name have even come up in trade talk is BECAUSE of the play of Theodore. |

I am not saying he shouldn't be surprised. His name has been in the media for a month now. All I am saying is, if he isnt asked directly by management, then he has no reason to explore options. If I am a player of the Canucks, the twitter fanbase or odd lunatic who calls into TSN1040, is not going to persuade me to look into housing in CHI or ANA or LA or DAL. |

The Bonino and Hansen were used as comparables. Both having good years and both on cap friendly contracts.
Theodore's name was brought up because of the "availability" of Fowler and Vatanen. All I am saying is, to whoever thought Hansen is worth Vatanen straight up, is completely delusional. |

If traded, he is likely leaving the family here and living in a furnished executive suite in the downtown core of whichever city he'd be traded to... His agency would help him with all that stuff, the logistics.
From all that we have heard from Hamhuis, he really doesn't want to go anywhere, I guess that is what it really comes down to.

I am pretty sure someone stated above that Hansen for Vatanen would be fair.
Vatanen has 31 points in 62 games as D man.
Hansen has 32 points in 59 games on the top line with the Sedins.
I don't see the fair trade there at all. |

I don't really blame him either. You won't hear a peep from me if he decides to stay. |
