Almost half his goals are on the PP, which a contender won't put him on. The other half is probably Eichel. - Sabresfan-365
I think McGinn is perfect for a playoff team. You need those gritty guys to bang in the corners and create havoc for the goalie in front. |

Well none if Murray thinks it's okay to ice a team full of career 3rd liners on bad contracts - bluengold12
I just don't get why you're so against getting a 3rd round pick for him?
I'm sure we'd all like more,
But Murray will get the best deal he can.
He can't force a team to pay what we want. |

Imo hes a bottom 6 player that has inflated numbers from playing on a top line/pp.
You're seeing the better players moved first |

This - gerbe75pts
Gionta is here for only 1 more year, and probably on our 4th line
Moulson had a tough deal to move...
Tbd how that's gonna play out, but it will
We don't need to get all up in arms about this stuff
Look at Chicago...
They have the Bickell contract, still pay Toews & Kane top $$$, remain a top Cup contender...
AND
Still managed to add Ladd at the deadline!
We'll be just fine guys |

Because I don't want another Daniel Catenacci or Justin Kea.
A guy who will spend three more (frank)ing years in junior then struggle to make the amerks line up let alone Buffalo's and then maybe someday after being in Rochester for three years play five games in Buffalo. 2nd round and 3rd round there's a huge drop off in talent. I don't feel like waiting six years to see if the return on McGinn pays off. I'd rather get a C level prospect who has two years development over some six year question mark |

I wish McGinn would be the difference in winning or losing. If all three of those 3rd liners on our team next year at those prices, we will be losing, it's why it's kind of crucial we don't resign and overpay McGinn.
Sometimes I feel people on this board confuse effort with skill. |

Buffalo bas been offering Jamie McGinn around at a third-round pick price to a few teams. Could change but that's likely landing spot. - chilliard77
So teams are basically balking at the 3rd? Fine. |

They also have a couple elite defenders and three elite lines. Not Larsson Foligno and Girgensons. |

Depends on where you place the value of moving him. Personally don't care what the return for him is, the real asset is not adding to an already way overpriced bottom 6. |

Those late 2nd rounders and 3rd rounders are what makes your team down the road when you have your top 6 set.
You keep them for cheap before they become to expensive and then trade them. It's the Chicago method.
With ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, Risto, hopefully a top 3 pick this year and wishful thinking Stamkos Murray needs to load up on those picks to round this roster out. |

I see it as why settle for a 3rd round pick which means he's worth the same as Mike (frank)ing Weber when you can ask for some guy whose on the final year of his junior career or in the ahl and still trying to find his footing. |

Of course we'd all rather have a higher pick...
But Murray will get what he can get
And a 3rd is WAY better than nothing
Tons & tons of quality players picked after the 2nd round
Even if we have to "wait 6 years"
We have SO MANY other prospects that will be coming up in that time
And only a couple open roster spots
It's really not that big of a deal if we take a 3rd in 2017
Fits the timeline better actually, giving us future depth
We have lots of depth coming over the next couple years |

Perhaps people aren't too keen to move on from them. As stripes said, having those guys constantly flow through the system to replace older players is what keeps cap strapped contenders contending for so long. |
