So if Stall goes for 2 2nd's and a prospect, what does Boedker go for? Staal is a far superior player. My guess is 2nd + prospect. |

Read the post correctly I said 5 years from now. Who is that third rounder You don't know idiots You don't know There are exceptions to all the rules If you go by percentages that third rounder will be insignificant in 5 years. He will be called Mr. Irrelevant - holeinone
well I know what I read. I also see you say that their 3rd rounders WILL FOR SURE not be any good players. the point I tried and other people tried to make was the you can never know. it is not like 3rd rounders give nhl players OFTEN no but it happens. and to strenghthen your point look at the oilers picks that have been 3rd round or lower last 10 years. they all suck |

And don't forget that all time great No 1 overall Pick Marc Andre Fleury Number One over all Do you think he has lived up to his ranking I don't think so - holeinone
Eric Johnson was a 1st overall, he hasn't lived up to his expectations, same with Yak. He has about 100 its in 4 NHL seasons. Mean while Datsyuk was 171st overall. I think the draft is a crapshoot and a lot depends on how well a team can develop players. |

Good points. Until I see what other D go for (beyond Weber types) I can't say whether this was a good deal of not. If Russell for example goes for a 1st, this was a great deal.
And we have no idea what we're going to get. Edmonton fans hated him, but Pittsburgh fans have given up on Malkin and Crosby at times. I mean, Johnston's negligence made Crosby mortal, I have no doubt that Edmonton's circus can ruin a player pretty quickly, too.
I mean, Jeff Petry was a -47 his last two years in Edmonton, and he's been fine for the Canadiens. - hardnosed
Have to agree. If he doesn't work out, we can let him go this offseason. Worth a shot IMO. |

Here is the bottom line If you get drafted by a crap team, you will likely turn into who drafted you. Yes there are exceptions but look around and see who struggles. Teams with no leadership are a disaster for young players |

Staal is completely washed up
He needs 1st line and PP minutes just to put up the dismal numbers he does now

Staal and Nash could be a nice duo for the Rangers. |

Top 20 in all time wins and will most likely finish in the top 10...looks like the Penguins did already with that pick |

Yes, because Sid, Toews, Doughty, Kane, etc. who were drafted by crap teams at the time all turned out rotten. |

There's been alot of great players drafted through the years outside the first or second round, no doubt. Compared to the amount of players that have been drafted in the 3rd round and never even sniffed the NHL though, the amount of impactfull NHLrs is very small. RW has had blogs about the chances of players drafted in each round actually making it to the NHL. Very small % of 3rd rounders make it. I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over using a 3rd to obtain a player that has the potential to be solid contributer this year and perhaps future years. If he busts the Pens haven't given up much to find out. |

It's believed Boston's last offer on Eriksson was 4 yrs, $5.25 mil per. Could be a year or two and just under $1 mil per yr light.

Unloading Cole and Bonino would be such an easy call if not for the injuries to Fehr and Lovejoy. That would make things much more interesting tomorrow. As it stands, moving Plotnikov (they're holding him out of practice today and the skate tomorrow) is about the only move I see them making. |

For the people female doging about the 3rd round pick and giving examples...for every 3 round pick that makes the NHL, there are what? 5 that don't....I just don't understand the complaining. I will hold off on my judgement till the off season to see what happens. |

You should read the Oilers blog. It called Schultz' time in Edmonton a "long nightmare." Mind you, this is one of the worst sports franchises in NA that was terrible well before Schultz arrived. - jfkst1
