You do realize the Canucks used to be very good at "drawing penalties"
One could argue that is not a very honourable way to play the game - Redmile247
But that is not an example of losing on purpose. Sure Kesler was an immature prima donna but you are just describing the character of three players of the team.... I assume Kesler, Burrows and (Damn, I forgot his name)..... two of which are gone and Burrows is no where near who he was in 2011.

Besides.... blindsiding a linesman is not really .... oh nevermind. I cannot judge the character of the Flames based on Wideman.... but can I please judge the fans on that guy who jumped naked over the board a few years ago????

They are definitely no where near that point anymore which is good ...I was just pointing out that the Canucks are not as squeaky clean when it comes to honour as you were projecting

I guess I am speaking to the purpose of the game is to win. How you do that is not in question. Honour comes into play when your team's purpose is to lose.
And lets face it.... the season the Maple Leafs have had nothing but an 82 game Training camp for next year.... but now they have traded so much away, they could easily see another training camp next year too.

I get that the leafs don't have a high payroll but they are all competing out there ...I guarantee every player on the roster is trying to win ...

I'm not going to get into the wideman thing
Otto's skate - Redmile247
No, I admit I was being a jerk bringing up Wideman. Truly I have no opinion. I think he was so focused on getting to the bench he was tunnel visioned. But the post game texts hurt his case.
Also, I think people tend to forget the Refs too have a union and need to be satisfied.

I disagree. While I think the players are trying to win, it is their own management who is stabbing them in the back.

Then stop the weighted lottery. Give every team who is not playoff bound the same odds of landing #1.
Thats the only other way to stop this garbage of tanking. - Beatle_john
Perhaps, but you'll still see teams completely stripping down to acquire picks and prospects.
There's always ways around the system and it's just a question of time before savvy GMs figured out how to fast track and manipulate that system as well.

Are they though ? If leafs management goes out and spends to the cap then most of the kids playing now don't get any ice time and the guys that are on one year deals don't get paid ....seriously this is how a proper rebuild works ...as much as most in here hate the leafs they are doing it right so far ...as long as they make sure to insulate their youth and not rush them

Babs gets his peepz to play hard...kudos there
Never questioned the Leafs effort just how n why it exists.
By that of course i mean the fans know they were fine with a rebuild
but the better word is a do over eg teardown.
Pretty ducats to watch it I might add.
Lets say a fair price charged n the revenue downturn effected the NHL
in very significant way that would be the market correcting itself.
Sure would be fun ti see what the cap would be then.
Imagine how many teams that r overpaying players would be in trouble?
The best run teams moneywise would rise above.
Anaheim SJ Arizona Florida etc.
What can I say, he's making JB look like a first-time GM, fortunately I think he will learn and has a tremendous eye for talent and will ultimately build a great team.
