If Hamhuis doesn't get moved, does anyone else expect a quick extension being signed?
- belcherbd

If so, it better not have a NTC, but signing him may be the best move going forward, would hate to see him walk for nothing

I don't think they will do anything until the season is over.

Possible but I doubt it. Benning expressed no interest in signing him all season long. I still maintain that he is gone shortly. I'd be shocked if he isn't

The part we will never understand is who Hamhuis is or was willing to go to. We may never know. Canucks fans will still blame whoever they want.

I think again if he doesn't get moved they will resign him soon and I have no problem with it. Dan has been pretty clear that he wants to be in Van next year and top 4 D are generally very hard to find.

Top 4 are easy to find, but hard to get. There is usually at least 2 or 3 top 4 dmen in FA avail. It can be harder to get them if your missing one. top 2 are hard to find/get.

I don't think they should and don't believe they will sign Hamhuis to an extension if he's not traded. Doubt even more that it would happen before the end of this season. If he signs here, he's going to want a NTC and that's not a good idea for the Canucks.

They need to add a young, NHL-ready defenseman with high potential to their lineup. Someone who has some size, a shot and isn't a liability in their own end. That's more likely to come via trade close to or at the draft. Likely an RFA who won't be able to fit under the cap with their current team. Canucks need to keep their options open until this plays out.

Also, the bottom dropped out of the UFA market last year and that trend is likely to repeat itself this July. No way Hamhuis is going to command $4+ over more than 2-3 years. You already know this is the only place he wants to play so let the market set the price and let him take a hometown discount and shorter term from that point.

I believe JB doesn't wanna rush into deals with older players n play a wait n see game. The TDL n offseason n draft r higher on his agenda IMO
He knows what Hamhuis brings n no need to strike a deal right away.

Fair enough, I agree that they need to find young NHL-ready D that you outline, I just don't think that they are easy to find and that they have a pretty good player who sounds like he really wants to play in Van.

he has 13mins to strike a deal or there is no deal we can really get for him unless a team gives a 7th to talk to him about contract earlier than july 1

I've got a great view of Burrard and Granville bridges from my office. Looks like the Burrard bridge is the bridge of choice today, lots of people lining up...

Saw a report that 1 person a year jumps off the Burrard Bridge... that number is about to go WAY up.
