This is the first significant setback IMO. I don't know the details yet but these are the assets we need to cash in on. Unless DH wouldn't waive, I'm pretty disappointed with JB today. All the other stuff has been trivial...

Well said. This is the first big chink in the armor for me on JB today too. Very disappointed he was unable to turn Hamhuis and Vrbata into at the very least some picks.

Strike 1 JB.

Will be interesting if we get any details about the last minute Hamhuis calls, I doubt we will but would be interesting if there was actually an offer.

Benning will come out and say Hamhuis never waived all along

Hamhuis is just one part of it, I wasn't confident he would be gone but I thought for sure we would of seen on of Vrbata, Bart, Vey, Sbisa, Hansen, Prust, Higgins gone. That is a bigger disappointment to me.

Hamhuis.
Vrbata.
Vey.
Bart.
Cracknell.
Prust.
Higgins.

Right on, maintain that status quo of a status quo.

Oh No, if we disagree with Benning we are "bad fans".

Oh no.

I cant live with hamhuis staying. He wanted to stay, he had a NTC, its not the end of the world. Vrbata staying, along with all those other pylons who have either been healthy scratched or demoted to Utica should have all gone for 6 or 7 rnd picks. I guess its hard when Pirri for a 6th is the standard for this TDL...

Benning was probably offered a lot of draft picks that he, the super amateur scout, has no use for.

Excited to see all the slurpers in the media pretend that Benning had great deals lined up and they all just happened to fall through.

We may never know if DH was willing to waive. but Vrbata had no choice but to give a list of 8 teams and go to one of them. There is no excuse. If Schultz could be traded for a 3rd, Bartowski could have gotten a 4th at least.

Agreed. This is bad. Perhaps there wasn't much interest in Hamhuis? Will be interesting as details are available

I wonder how Hamhuis is going to like fielding all those questions from the media.

Did Hamhuis actually say he'd be open to trade and then sign back with the canucks? If so, what was the big deal about not getting what you thought was fair? Is it not better to get something than nothing?

I disagree, unless Dan actually didn't waive. Benning as much as I criticize some of his moves, I believe is honest when he talks to the media.

He won't throw a player under the bus IMO.

Dallas getting Russell might be cuz he might resign where Hammer was likely not to.

I guess but if they sign him for a few more years then I guess it makes sense. Not every guy can go somewhere else for a few months and return for the next season....and I am happy he doesn't go to Chi

I think Pirri more has to do with being arb eligible and being due for a 2-3 million dollar deal and Anaheim will probably trade him again at the draft. Plus I thought I read that Pirri is either injured or playing through an injury right now that hurt his value.

Look what Fleischmann, Weise, Spaling, etc. got. There was a market for versatile depth players.

ahaha pretty much man.

At this point a 4th for Hammer and a 7th for Vrbata is better then absolutely nothing.

WTF did we have to lose?

Why would you think there was a market for Vrbata?

With Burrows already here the Canucks couldn't take on Bickell's contract.

I kind of expected that no one was interested in "the list" and Vrbada is injured and sucking and I suspect they were downplaying his injury even.... Hamhuis was the only one I was certain would be moved for a decent asset if he waived of course.

I don't want to resign Hammer. We don't need him with Edler under contract.

We don't know if anyone wanted a injured Vrbada. I'm not going down this road where I assume there was all these trades and JB just didnt feel like making trades. I'm disappointed we didnt get anything for Dan and am waiting for the details. The rest of our junk leaves little to be surprised about.

Because there is always a market for a player, and its the GM's job to find that market. Especially on an expiring asset.
