Dallas getting Russell might be cuz he might resign where Hammer was likely not to.
That coulda been the linch pin. Just spitballing for consumption here.

- Nighthawk

took the words right outta my mouth. I also think that had a lot to do with it.
Ive been thinking since Hammer said that that it was going to cost us. High profile athletes should more often just say nothing.

I kind of expected that no one was interested in "the list" and Vrbada is injured and sucking and I suspect they were downplaying his injury even.... Hamhuis was the only one I was certain would be moved for a decent asset if he waived of course.

I don't want to resign Hammer. We don't need him with Edler under contract.

- boonerbuck

I wouldn't resign him either.

I disagree, unless Dan actually didn't waive. Benning as much as I criticize some of his moves, I believe is honest when he talks to the media.

He won't throw a player under the bus IMO.

Why would you think there was a market for Vrbata?

With Burrows already here the Canucks couldn't take on Bickell's contract.

- AustrianCanuck

why? It only amounts to about 600K the rest of the year.

LOL (frank) me, i didn't even see that Cracknell was picked up on waivers by EDM.

That's great, not only did we not trade anyone but it would appears as though we gave away or most "valuable" asset for free

This TDL has entered negative territory.

Probably could have traded Cracknell for Larsen. I mean Larsen's rights, the zero-asset to Edmonton who prefers playing in the KHL to the Oilers worth a 4th round pick.

Come on now..cracknell is awful. Vrbata clearly has no value. The question that Benning needs to answer is regarding Hamhuis and Hamhuis alone

Because there is always a market for a player, and its the GM's job to find that market. Especially on an expiring asset.

How the (frank) is Cracknell awful? If that was the case he wouldn't have been picked up. Keep in mind that EDM was one of the first teams able to make a claim.

Also, he was our most effective "4th" liner, the only true one we had. Now we got what? Vey, Granlund, Burrows?

I'm (frank)ing tired of this pro-Benning crowd, y'all act as if he is holier then thou and can do absolutely no wrong.

Also, are you telling me someone wouldn't have given up a 7th for Vrbata, look at some of the garbage that has been moved.

We don't even have a (frank)ing roster spot for the bum.

I don't understand how people can defend him this deadline. He actually gave up a pick.

McKenzie and Dreger strongly suggesting that Dan gave JB 2 teams(Hawks/Stars) and they tried to low ball him late....

He has a good eye for talent, but I don't think he is GM material. He should stick to drafting and letting someone know who we want from other teams and who we don't from ours and let someone else handle the rest.

I'm not defending Benning. I'm pissed they didn't trade Hamhuis. My opinion is that Cracknell is brutal. That is all
