The guy who was a depth dman on the Oilers...the Oilers!
- Nucker101

He wasn't depth, he refused to resign with him and went to KHL. Though his numbers in KHL are good. BTW your not a canucks fan, so go away.

As far as 4C's go he's probably league average. A positive value add by Benning that turned into nothing
- Lindenis#1

Yes he's average. But thats better than what we have to replace him. He added grit too.

Who do you put in 4C now thats better suited? Exactly.

You really like being negative huh? Even your avatar is negative.

How does dorsett suck? He's a role player and he does his job at it pretty well. Every team needs role players.

Your list of positives does not include JV or Mcann. Did you forget them? Also Etem was a good trade as well. Jensen was a bust and Etem is developing still but shows flashes of brilliance much like Sven did early on before he broke out.
JB also drafted Tryamkin and is being creative in a contract to bring him here.
Think he drafted Demko as well. Boeser as well.
You missed a lot.

- SMBDragon

You're right, I forgot Etem.

I figured I wouldn't include a draft record since you can't make any judgement on that in the first 2 years.

Dallas getting Russell might be cuz he might resign where Hammer was likely not to.
That coulda been the linch pin. Just spitballing for consumption here.

- Nighthawk

I think the Hamhuis to Dallas talk was just Nill getting leverage for a better deal from Calgary. Russell makes more sense for them. Even if he's not as good as Hamhuis, he's not that far off and is younger and cheaper. Also more likely to re-sign there next year. If you don't think this is your year, do you blow that many assets for one guy who won't be back next year?

Chicago or LA made more sense for Hamhuis because I think they're better positioned to go all the way. Don't think LA was ever interested and he was never going to waive for Boston. (Too far east and not a contender.) So it came down to one team to try and work out a deal with. Maybe the Hawks didn't want him enough or Benning knew Hamhuis wouldn't waive to go there. Too restricted a market for us fans to have been expecting a home run return.

What makes cracknell awful? He does his job to a T. Best FO guy for 4th line we have. Took tough assignments in Defensive zone at that. WE currently dont have anyone else who can play that role.
we were better off with him than without.

Look at the the roster rollover Benning has been able to pull off in less then 2 years. Now he doesn't make 2 trades at the deadline and this is a rudderless ship.?

- fiveandagame

It's because he has poor asset management. We don't know about Hammer's situation, but several of the plays on his list could have gotten something...

Roster turnover without direction isn't necessarily a good thing. The defence is a mess, without any grade A prospects in the pipeline. Look at the guys added to our roster that shouldn't be on it.

It has far more to it than not making 2 trades, they're just icing on the cake.

Roster turnover doesn't mean direction. Most non-playoff teams have large roster overhaul every season, let alone two seasons ago.

Though I wonder how ownership will view this. If they are sold on a re-build, how will they judge the lack of movement on picks and prospects?

They're both Canuck fans and entitled to their opinion.

We had people screaming for AV's firing for years, as well as Gillis' dismissal.

If anybody thinks Benning should be above criticism then they haven't been paying attention.

Good lord you guys are superb at taking things out of context.

Seeing as how he was the only player that moved to another team today, he was the player with the most value today (outside the realm of hamhuis, though who knows what the deal is with that)

- Whiskey-Tango

You guys... you have no (frank)ing clue what went on behind closed doors, not a (frank)ing clue. the same with Phucker or paper bag head or maureyballenstin. But you can come on here and spew garbage because no one got moved and Cracknel was waived to make room for a possible move.

Others have tried to explain their disappointment at the lack of TDL movement, but get labeled because they don't subscribe to hysteria, but have a more measured viewpoint.
You guys...

Does he? People keep saying this, but I'm not seeing it.

Bartkowski sucks, Dorsett sucks, Sbisa sucks, Vey sucks, Granlund had sucked and probably will suck, Prust sucks.

The only positive value adds he's made have been Vrbata (who now really, really sucks) and Baertschi (who sucked to start, then got ok, but may yet suck again in the future).

Even if you want to say he's got an eye at the draft, maybe he should be more open to acquiring draft picks to prove that instead of trading them away.

- Lindenis#1

Via trading away all these guys who suck for said valuable draft picks?

There were only 13 trades (i think) today. There are a lot of teams that are holding on to players that didn't get a deal done. There is a list of team that are still holding assets that were on the block. It's not like there were 30 trades today and Benning is the only guy that couldn't' pull the trigger

Well its mostly a knee jerk reaction to a pretty mild TDL after all.
The real fun lays ahead in the offseason n draft n what next years roster looks like n how it plays. Its not all doom n gloom but expectations r often setting us up for a letdown. JB doesn't seem to panic or into making rash decisions.

Like JB or not he does it his way n sticks to his plan.
So far he is as advertised n building up prospects n drafting n developing like he always said was his course he n TL set out on.

Next season will be up to WD to make serious progress for the on ice play n get us an identity going forward during this transition phase. I see him on hot the seat.
