Getting younger while staying competitive is the hard part unless you have a great prospect base which it sounds like you didn't. Gotta go one way or the other. Was the staying competitive direction from ownership? - Canada Cup
Without a doubt. |

Right, and others get labeled by the likes of you as being "hysterics" for being caring fans who are merely severely disappointed by the lack of anything.
Do we know what happened behind closed doors? No, but did anything of substance at all happen? No.
Excuse me for being a little pissy when this team is in need of a serious course of action.
- Whiskey-Tango
A little pissy, major understatement...so are you inferring that you need to be hysterical to be a fan. You can't be a fan if you're objective, reasoned, open minded and still be disappointed in certain decisions. But because some of us don't go a little hyster...sorry a little pissy, that makes us non fans. |

Yes it was ownership wanting to stay competitive. Unrealistic at that. |

The plan was to get younger, be a fast team with a mix of bigger and skilled guys that can all play. I really dont see how they have differed from the plan at all. The guys in the lineup for forwards are mostly in their early 20's now, JB has acquired guys like Sutter and Etem, for speed. Granlund and Vey were supposed to be skill acquisitions, but neither projected to be top 6 (though you still need to fill out your bottom six with responsible guys that can play). They wanted to get their draft picks in the lineup, which with Bo, JM and JV had brought in guys that have speed, skill and arent afraid to play gritty. They are following the plan, but some people are too outraged at the pace of the plan to see he has literally done everything he said. - WhiteLie
agreed, and i generally do like "the plan" and back it wholeheartedly.
I am behind Benning for the most part.
But, to go into the deadline with 10 UFAs/RFA's and result in losing an effective player for free is a downright (frank)ing failure.

It likely came from ownership... And the general belief that subjecting prospects to constant losing is bad for their development |

Is it though? I am a little disappointed in the lack of moves, but Cracknell going to Edmonton will help them win games. The analytics crowd will tell you that Russell leaving Calgary will make all their players better. I am a little disappointed that with all the UFA guys they didnt move the ones currently holding a spot in the lineup, but there arent that many there. The team could only get worse if they called up Prust and put him in, which is still an option |

I'm inferring how I personally feel, i don't presume to be able to talk for anyone else.
I am disappointed.
Some are not surprised.
I am hysterical?

You have a unique view of what a Canucks fan is then. Popping into a thread once every three months to troll fans and utilizing a second account to validate your opinions. Real fans Golfing - CanuckDon
Nucker was for a long time one of the most prominent posters on this thread Don, and has been consistent about his feelings for Benning from the beginning. Linden#1 is not Nucker, and is also a long time poster.
The reason they aren't here more often probably has more to do with how they are treated than anything else. I'm not going to say Nucker didn't bring a bunch of it upon himself but i'd like to think we're all adults and can move on.
Even Vantel and I and Booner and Chompsey can be cordial. |

Detroit model - park them in the AHL and let them win there. Then they can fight for spots on the roster when they're more than ready. Excited to see Nylander and some of the kids come up tonight. |

We were there 2 years ago pre-Shanahan. Hang in there. Its a good thing that the team is at least moving in one direction (whether down or up). Staying in mediocrity just means more time wasted. Eventually Benning will get canned. |

It really is reassuring to know we have one of the WORST GM's in the NHL.
Still haven't decided who's worse, Rutherford or Benning.

At least on the positive side we didn't give up a 2nd,3rd,4th,5th and a prospect for Stempniak and John Michael Liles on top of not moving Eriksson.
Once again, just like at the draft, Sweeney's moves will overshadow Benning's non moves IMO. |

Out of all the acknowledged sellers only Vancouver missed the boat. And yes that's disapointing. But it was a soft market. Buying teams lacked cap space. The trade clauses at the end of the day held back a deal/ better deal. We can mostly blame Gillis. Though Benning should have taken anything on Hamhuis, Vrbata, Bartkowski etc etc. No need to loose our minds. Not impressed though. |
