Hamhuis said he would take "a similar approach" as he did 6 years ago on hometown discount to re-sign with the #Canucks.

- fiveandagame

I hope he takes a hometown discount in Edmonton. Why would you want to go through this ritual again? Sign an aging player who doesn't add to our main problem of scoring or toughness , to be handcuffed again in 3 years when we want to move him.

No thanks

Ray Ferraro on TSN Trade Center got quite animated.

Ferraro "I have no idea what vancouver is doing. There is no consistent or coherent thought process to guide most of their moves"
---
Ferraro "They’re an aging team with a collection of depreciating assets that they should move. I just don't understand what this team is doing at the moment"
---
Lebrun cuts in "Hamhuis was a tough piece to move"
---
Ferraro "Even if they couldn't move Hamhuis, you cannot tell me other players on that team like Vrbata could not fetch something with salary retained, I'm not buying it"

Rest of the Panel nods.

he literally said noone offered anything for Vrbata (out of 12 teams.... noone offered a 5th? I dont believe it), and the Dallas deal "didnt make sense for the team (so there was obviously an offer, who knows if it was equal to russel).

Like Cody Eakin or Jason Spezza? hard to find a bad contract that was going to get moved on that roster.

He was a tough piece to move but he had offers he refused. As much as we may have ripped Benning for a poor return, he got the absolute worst return possible.

Cap space and owner dollars make a difference these days. Some teams are cheap and look at the production they think Vrbata will bring and decide they dont want to pay the remainder of his $5m salary. I think JB admitted having ballpark discussions but I am sure they never progressed because the perceived benefits of Vrbata werent there

Look at Stempniak. 850k 16 goals, 25 assists, +3.

Look at Vrbata. 5 million. 12 goals, 12 assists, -32.

Brandon Pirri, 975k, 11 goals, 13 assists -4.

Something looks out of place...

this is most definitely Bennings fault "we didnt recieve any offers" was his quote of the day. YOU"RE SELLING JB, we need a gm that can actually work a phone, Benning is obviously known as a joke in the GM community. Seeing the Russel return actually makes me rage ;.;
- Crazybagoham

I say Nill was playing JB n it didn't work n Russell did not come cheap.
Lots of poker is played on the TDL n Nill didn't get a bargain for a UFA
wanting a big pay hike. I figure he low-balled JB or wanted us to take
on salary. If salary with any term then its a no deal.

Pretty much,

i like some of what he was preaching, but got dam how do you not pull the trigger.

Also what caught my ear, "We didn't get many calls on Higgins and Prust"

So does that mean you got a couple calls for those two bums?

If we didnt have sbisa locked in for a couple of years then I would bring him back but as it stands not really a place for him unless you have him playing with say hutton as a 2nd pairing.

Benning says the #Canucks offered to retain salary when discussing deals with Hamhuis and Vrbata.

Either Benning is straight up lying or he's trying to cover his ass

Are you claiming, with your buddy Fry, that Russel is really a better D-man than Hamhuis?

Wow that's everything there. That's hockey right there in those charts.

Serious though, trust your GM. He knows what he's doing and you're not wasting any hope on supporting him.

who cares about returns? the fact that our GM obviously cant sell a player(you talk a player up) to another GM is more concerning. Benning seems gutless.
