I'd take him for any kind of goal scoring potential guy. I know this isn't a popular statement but I'd take him for Yak right now. As far as I'm concerned they've both failed to live up to their potential. At least in Yak he has the potential to score goals. Girgensons will probably have a long career as a 3rd line 12 goal max type player for his career which is fine but not what this team needs more of. - bluengold12
Well he's already scored more than that in a season.
He's a 3rd line shut down center in the 15-20/20 range.
He's 22
Yak's potential is that of Nikita Filatov. AKA out of the league. |

He's on his 3rd coach in as many years.
You need guys like him for deep runs.
He's a player you already have, why have the need to go out and find a player like him when they're a contender?
Only way I move him is if it's in a package for a top pair 25 yrs or younger LH defenseman. Other than that, you keep him. - dadeadhead

A few quick thoughts on some of what's been talked about here...
On Zemgus: I really like him as a player, but if we can leverage him to get someone who has a legitimate chance to be a top-6 player on a good team, I think you take that chance all day. I don't know that he has the type of consistency on the offensive side of the puck to contribute night in and night out the way a player like Drouin potentially (yes, potentially) could. I would rather take a shot on someone with a much higher ceiling than to content with a solid third-line guy on a good team. I get we'll need those players when we are a contender, but we're not right now and you need great players in your top-6 to get to that level.
On prospects more generally: I would say that broadly speaking, as Sabres fans, we have a tendency to overvalue prospects in our system. In my opinion, this stems directly from being as bad as we've been for as long as we've been. When you have no chance at the cup, you latch on to prospects and convince yourself they can get you there because if you can't believe in that, it is damn tough to pull for your boys night in and night out without going crazy. I think this plays into the Zemgus conversation at least to some degree.
On "Rumor Breakers": Seems to be a lot of hate thrown in the way of individuals who may legitimately have sources inside the organization and who have proven to be useful in the past in providing us with information. They don't have to do this, they choose too--often because people wonder aloud where they are and what they know. If you don't believe them, that's fine, but we can't be asking what they know on one hand and then being pissed about what they say on the other. To those guys providing us with what they know, Thank You, I appreciate the inside insight. |

Anaheim would take that offer laugh for about thirty minutes then spit on it and send it back. |

I would do that deal.
Even if they don't get lucky and sign Stamkos signs, they still have a high pick they can use on one of the forwards as the Ducks won't do that deal during the season, and they could take a look around for other UFA potential signings, especially those of the bargain variety. |

they don't have a second-rounder til 2018 and no third-rounder this year...
*shrugs*
wonder if they'll have a mid-level prospect they'd be interested in moving |

Grass appears to be greener on the other side type thing...
I think to be fair Girgensons is a better player right now than Yak. Obviously. But you're trading for Yak's potential not what he has right now. - bluengold12
He's had much more to work with in his time in the NHL than 28 by a country mile.
