Can't they offer more time if he is their property, though? Isn't it 7 years max for UFA but if they are already with your team it can be 8 years? If so I can see a scenario where they trade assets to increase what they can offer...I'm not 100% sure on that but this would make sense...

They won't spend 11 million a year on Stamkos and they might have to pay closer to 12 if they want to outspend the Leafs.

I think they have to be on your team either for a full season prior or before the TDL. Don't remember.

I am telling you the sabres are holding onto assets,they WILL DO EVERTHING TO GET 91. If a great deal comes up today then great,but they will hold fo draft

you're losing credibility 39. (a) we will not trade a 1st round pick for the rights to negotiate with UFA Stamkos, a 3 at most; and (b) what assets do the Sabres need to hold onto to sign a UFA.

No you must have a player on the books for a year in order to offer a max length contract.

I think they have to be on your team either for a full season prior or before the TDL. Don't remember.

Nope.

Just needs to be on the books for a year.

IE: Stamkos would have needed to be picked up 2 years ago so they could offer a max deal.

Only way he gets a max length deal of 8 years is with Tampa only and i doubt a sign and trade is an option.
