I'm a little disappointed moves weren't made, apparently not as much as some, but I have no control or influence over trades. the hysteria is a bit much... I understand this is the internet, but some of the posts are pure nonsensical, to the extreme.

all the speculation over the offers, we heard these same media talking heads mention Chicago as a trading partner a few days ago... did it happen? no. so what do they really know?

Hmmmm. Why?

First of all - There's no guarantee that those top-5ers pan out...I'm sure I don't need to strut out Edmonton or most of the other teams who have bottomed out this decade...why do you think 2 players are going to be the cure-all?

Second - What about teams that have done well without top picks?

Third - I don't think any team has relied on solely that - is there one? The hawks did well with Toews/Kane, but they've also had two stud D, solid goaltending and very good bit players...they've also been very good with selling high on some assets...though not perfect.

While a team like Boston/Detroit might be exceptions, IMO the best teams have an elite anchor and usually said anchor comes in the top 5 range. There are exceptions. Again, this is just my opinion as we have never had a number 1. The Sedins have been our anchors, we all know where they were picked.

I guarantee i won't lose sleep over today.

However, I think we can all stop pretending that Benning is some kind of stud GM.

There may be some hysteria, but I don't think it's been too bad. These are rough times to be a Canucks fan after many good years.

Lost opportunities like today can set a team back a year or two is all i'm thinking.

I love how Leafs and Oilers fans come and laugh. They've lost the right to laugh at anyone, ever.

There should be some kind of playoff for the 1OA pick. Elminates purposely tanking and you'd have to actually "deserve it". This lose as many games as you can and up your chances for the prize is absolute garbage. You're not rewarded for being outright trash.

When the groundhog came out and saw his shadow Benning thought he had another 6 weeks.

The best part of this trade deadline is there is enough negative energy to fuel this fan base all the way to the draft. This board will be rocking and rolling for the next couple months.

Don't be so arrogant, no one is suggesting the end of the world or that Benning has ruined all future chances of success. People are suggesting he is making mistakes.

The only ones turning this into a crisis is the ones who are hell bent on seeing this as another positive step in the rebuild.

It isn't, today accomplished nothing, end of story. You can argue either side about what they should of done or couldn't of done or will do or whatever but at the end of the day Beninng wasn't able to do anything today and there is no way to spin that positively.

The side I am arguing is, no trades were made. Hamhuis and Vrbata are still here. Life goes on. As opposed to setting the rebuild back, I don't believe it does, it just doesn't advance the rebuild the way some may have hoped or expected.

I am glad JB didn't trade away any of our good young prospects that were in demand.

I don't laugh at the Oilers. It's terrifying watching a team get lottery pick after lottery pick and not improve. It scares me as a fan of a team that I rebuilding that it could fail that bad.
