If he trades the Sedin's on draft day, all is forgiven

It had better be one hell of a return. As a fan, i'd love to see them retire Canucks.

Obviously drafting well and through trades possibly at the draft, and throughout the year, also proper training and development of the prospects and young guys already in the system.

My comment was directed at the speculative assessment of Linden, Benning, being liars and incompetent in their roles because twitter or media are throwing around poop that people love to quote.

I am also disappointed by a lack of moves today, but I fail to see how being belligerent in a blog is usefull

The jury is still out to see if this management team is competent. JB to me is a better judge of scouting than a negotiator. TL is the buffer between FA and the marketplace. One would be foolish to think the later isn't pulling the odd string here and there.

With the cap expected to potentially decrease, the teams with cap space will control everything. Basically they'll have cap ceiling teams begging them to make Ehrhoff for Patrick White or Patrick Sharp for Johnny Oduya type of deals.

A lot of teams won't have anything to spend in the UFA market either.

- Nucker101

I said exactly the same thing a couple weeks back. Thats why I think guys like ladd are going to really regret not signing those deals they had on the table cus they wont get anything close to that come july.

I am all for making a free agent splash in the summer, Stamkos would be great, but still hope we are able to sign a top 4 dman.

on another note, some are suggesting ownership interference, and I have a hard time believing FA would have vetoed any trades today that would help the team sell tickets and fill seats. Doesn't make business sense. Greed outweighs petty squabbles for the most part....

- hillbillydeluxe

Nope, not even close to the same level of incompetence. I also hope nobody mentions the fact the we only had a couple teams to deal with. Carolina could only deal Staal to NYR and they GOT IT DONE.

It would also be a really good time to have room to take on contracts, not just salary.

They came out of the GM meeting saying the cap was going up.

10 years ago . Sundin also told everyone weeks before I am not waiving. He didn't have everyone hanging on to the last minute

It was frustrating listening to Hamhuis being interviewed before tdl, it reminded me of Lebron when he was announcing he picked Miami as his destination... not quite the same, but a player with the power to choose whether he would stay or go.

Gm's, if they are going to negotiate ntc's, should have them end prior to tdl of the last year of the contract... but you work with what you have.

Florida will sign Ladd.

As always, it's the middle of the road players that will get squeezed.

Two firsts, a blue chip prospect and 14 mil in cap space is more than enough for me. Send them to Detroit, we can all be wings fans for one year.

Don't discount it, he hates Gaglardi with a passion, there's a reason he did an end run around him to buy the Canucks off of McCaw all those years ago. The fact that Gaglardi dragged him into court to try and get the team didn't help matters. I have no doubt that FA would nix any deal with Dallas and Gaglardi unless it's a clear win for him, hence why I agree that if a deal that was similar to what Russell went for was on the table, FA would have nixed it and tried to get more.

I'm honestly surprised that Hamhuis wouldn't waive for any of the California teams. They have decent playoff projections and are relatively close to Vancouver.

FA & Gaglardi are business partners in the Squamish development deal.

As I said I wished Hamhuis came out and said I'm staying it could have ended the BS.

Now the GM looks incompetent , it lets down the hopes of a fan base and we aren't the talk of the NHL for all the wrong reasons.

He didn't have to go anywhere . We don't have to sign him. I wish him luck with his new team

Latest reports earlier this month were that it could decrease by as much as 4 million(probably not that much, but I'd be shocked if it increases based on that).

Tallon signing Ladd definitely sounds like a deal waiting to happen. Nice final big contract for Ladd to retire in the sunshine state with low taxes as well.

I didn't want to mention it, not sure where I heard it - might have been 1040, or the details, but I thought I heard mention of a big real estated development and both Gaglardi and the Aquilini's were partners or it was some sort of joint venture... maybe that is business and the hockey clubs are not quite the same, hobby, passion, whatever.

But if a hockey deal could benefit both teams and it is nixed because of that personal stuff, it is very disappointing.

Yes they had NTC's, but he turned down decent deals according to multiple sources.

I mean Luongo had a 1 team list and Gillis still got two assets for him.

- golfingsince

Luongo was under contract and the same thing actually happened as today,,, Gillis failed to move him at the TDL. Horrible example....

I think JB is out of his comfort zone making a deal, especially at crunch time. Not only this year.

He's a good fit with all of that youth. Dale will likely overpay but could very well get a Cup out of the deal.

I think there's truth to this, Nill said that TG dropped into the arena and stayed a few days and was involved in a lot of the discussions, because ultimately he signs the cheques.

People can speculate whether the riff between FA and TG had something to do with today's events, who (frank)ing knows.

Yup.......
So far Sportsnet, TSN, ESPN, THN have all rated Vancouver as the biggest losers of the deadline.

I want picks

- classic321

Biggest losers a day where hardly any trades were made.... biggest losers because Benning didnt take the 3rd he was offered? Oh well.. so be it. I'm disappointed but this team isnt screwed because they missed out on a 3rd.

No one wanted the players on "The List".
