No, Benning was only offered a late pick.
Source: Benning. - golfingsince
Show me a better source that was directly involved instead of media who don't provide a source at all.

Makita, refs are scarce at this hour. Would you mind coming over to the Leafs thread to dispose of some trash?
Please and thanks. |

Why is it that if one team gets something for their player, that means all gm's must be able to get the same deal...talk about (frank)ed up logic.
So Conn McDavid can play with exception skill so why can't all rookies, same logic no? |

It's funny how many people don't know the difference between a source and the media.

What's funnier is that people think Hamhuis would be traded for less than half the value of Polak. |

So by this logic, should we treat all GM's equally?
Benning is no Holland, that's pretty apparent. |

Not at the moment, but I'm sure that Shanny and Babs have taken a few pages from Holland's book. |

What I meant was nucker twice or three times mentioned that Stall only submitted one team and a deal got done...so by that logic Benning had 2 teams so should have had no issues making a deal.
So I was being facetious in saying that CMcD can be jesus on skates so all rookies should be jesus on skates...what's good for one is good for all...what do you think sound logic? |

Probably not.
I think the frustration lies in the fact that Linden says he has control over the team, yet reports suggest otherwise.
If FA is blocking moves, then get set for a really, really long down period. |

I think that people are leaning too much on the fact that Hamhuis only gave a few teams to deal with. It's an expiring contract, who's value died after today at noon pacific time.
Either Benning (frank)ed up, which is bad......or his hands were tied, which is far worse. |

Not all things are equal, Carolina traded a player and got a return, doesn't mean that the same is true for Vancouver even if hamhuis submitted 5 teams. They (Benning, FA, TL, whoever is calling the shots) weren't happy with the return and a deal wasn't consummated. Just because something happens over there, doesn't mean it has to happen over here |

Crazy isnt it but I'm not very narrow minded so I don't suffer the same level of disappointment in that reality. Examples people keep pointing at are not exactly on a level playing field.
Of Hammer's teams, it looks like JB had two teams that were interested but were more interested in other moves. They made late offers that were low ball. People can choose to believe or not believe the only people who were in the war room or they can believe speculators who were not there until more creditable people who were there speak up.
No one wanted the junk on "The List" or believe me, they would have been gone unless they were just similar depth... no point in any more moves like that. |

I'm far more concerned if it's FA. Much harder to replace an owner than a GM. |

I hear ya, but unless the Canucks are planning on resigning Hamhuis, getting nothing is completely unacceptable, even if it was a 5th or something along those lines.
I understand that pride, ego and setting bad precedents sometimes hinder deals, but sometimes that stuff needs to be put aside to get the job done.
With 5 minutes to go in the TDL, Benning should have been greasing his own hoop and over a barrel if that's what it took to get Hamhuis, Vrbata, Higgins and Burrows done. |

You're right, it doesn't mean it has to happen. Then again, not trading expiring contracts for futures because the return doesn't measure up to your expectations doesn't really seem all that bright.
Let's be realistic, there was a decent deal on the table for Hamhuis who is likely to re-sign with the team. |
