I would let Gaunce come up and fill in for Vrbata. See what he can do for 15 games. Worst case scenario we get a better draft pick. - VANTEL
yeah, they should start sitting guys and see what the young players can do and get them ready for next season...
the list business was silly. I think JB should have called each GM and presented the guys he's willing to move instead of sending out a fax on his players who were available... |

I believe Darren Pang , he said the list was sabotaged. |

Finally had a chance to watch Benning's presser... I think what worries me the most is Benning's approach to trade negotiations. He kept saying that teams had interest in Vrbata but they never got any concrete offers. It seems like he has a very binary approach to trade talks where "buyers" make an offer first and then "sellers" respond. It can't be that black and white. It also seems like he overplays his hand in these talks and has a hard time actually getting the deal that he wants. He wasn't able to trade up for the first overall pick in Virtanen's draft (probably understandable), he couldn't get a dman that he wanted for Shinkaruk and had to settle for Granlund, he couldn't move Hamhuis for a pick, he couldn't get the return he wanted for Lack etc. Maybe he should look to bring on an AGM that has better negotiating skills to handle trades... |

In a buyers market you need to put on a loud, ugly suit and hire someone in a gorilla outfit to stand outside your used car lot begging people to come in and buy something, anything.

Do you really think he was only offered a 3rd?
Has the fisherman turned into a fish ? - golfingsince
Benning said the only offer he got was from Dallas (last minute) and it didn't make sense for the organizTion. Why do you think it was better than a 3rd? Let me guess, you are speculating. The Stars chose Russel and then made a last ditch slap in the Canucks face offer. Benning was right to tell them to (frank) off. He also said he would have happily taken picks in the trade. If the offer wouldn't help the club say no. This is a business and it doesn't benefit the Canucks organization to help out Galardi |

In a sense, yes. In a buyers market, you need to...well... sell. Rather than waiting for "concrete" offers to come in on a player, go to a team and say "I'll trade you x for a pick in round y, and I'll retain z% of his salary. Here are the reasons why you should do it: blah blah blah |

Did you guys only want Hamhuis traded because hes set to be UFA? Or has his play fallen off? - Bigzby
He was brutal this year but everyone seems to think he should return a kinds random. And no, he wasn't the best Dman at the deadline, Russel was. Ask Dallas |

just going to throw one theory out there. Dan gave the Canucks the okay to deal him, but if they did they would have to reward him July 1st with a big contract and term. Benning made the assessment that the return in any trade wasn't enough if he was going to have to reward hamhuis. Canucks don't owe hamhuis anything now and should try to re-sign him at a discount and short term.... Will be interesting to see what happens - Mungo
But this scenario is assuming something might have happened behind the scenes and Benning isn't the worst GM in the league? I should flag you for thinking outside of the box and not relying on Dreger but I won't as I'm in a generous mood |

Before the end of the season, possible be the end of the week if the backlash continues. Yesterday was really disappointing; it just feels like there is no plan or direction which kinda indicates to me that FA is meddling. |

I don't trust these reliable sources that media are using..
I listened to 2 JB interviews and it didn't sound like it was worth it to make moves for the sake of PR if they didn't make sense, he would have been roasted for being bent over a barrel and being taken advantage of...
No picks or prospects coming our way is disappointing, now looking forward to see what he can do in the summer and at the draft. |

4 months from now as we are preparing for free agency this will be a distant memory, We have some good youth on almost every line(not the Sedin line obviously) I like the way Horvat is becoming the guy the team can lean on. Baertchi looks like he is beginning to develop into a good top 6 winger. Virtanen has mad a a huge developmental leap since the World Juniors. Vey actually looks like an NHLer, I like Etems game since he arrived, and in a very small sample size Granlund looks ok. I think McCann will be a 25-30 goal scorer just needs to put in the work and get stronger.
I believe with the cap space they have they will target some d men in free agency and trades this summer. Hutton is a guy who could play in the top pairing, he's looked good since Edler has been out. I love what Markstrom has done this season, he's ready.
I was disappointed there were no trades yesterday but not that surprised, seriously everyone on this forum ripped both Vrbata and Hamuis most of this year yet we wanted a big package back for both. I don't think the sky is falling, like boonerbuck said it's a setback but this team is better off going into this off season than last for sure.
On a side not the kids have been fun to watch this year, it's nice to have some budding stars to watch for once. |

i agree with what you wrote (except I never ripped Vrbata or Hamhuis, and yes I wanted a lot for them)...
I agree with JB not trading them for some other teams garbage (I doubt he was offered a 3rd without him taking on some plug that dallas wanted to offload which would be another contract on the books).
I'm glad JB didn't make a trade for the sake of a trade. Too bad Hammer didn't agree to go to Beantown for the 1st and Eriksson... Nux could have flipped Eriksson at that point for some more picks. |

Canucks need to chose a side. Fans will get on board with a rebuild , and they will get on board with going all out to build a winner. They won't get on board with trying to make the playoffs and one and out.
Sh1t or get off the pot
Hypothetical question . Would you prefer your roster to look like A or B
A)
Stamkos Gaunce LUcic Pedan
Or
B )
Burrows Higgins Hamhuis Weber Bartowski Prust Vrbata ? - VANTEL
If your putting stammer and lucic with guys like gaunce and pedan why are they signing with you ? Seems like only one option is viable

I think teams are always going to save face when they miss out on a trade, get the lesser of the player they were after, or are not able to make a trade.
Russell is in no way shape or form a better option than hamhuis EVER. Russell has the shot blocks, cap, and age that is all much more favourable than Hammer. Hammer has experience, depth, possession #'s, fancy stats, everything that makes him a better player. The fact remains that BT and the flames got a tremendous haul for Russell and the Canucks got nothing. Either way, TDL is what it is and we should all move on and proceed with the draft kid talk and embrace the tank |

Settle down, this wasn't an attack.
And it's not that hard to figure out. The ownership never wanted to properly rebuild when they had a shot at playoff revenue....even if the shot was slim. Trade prospects for aging superstars year after year and you get the Leafs.
I think they have abandoned that strategy finally. |

Benning and Linden have been super criticized since even arriving in VAN in Management. This will relieve some of the heat they are taking from the fanbase over the lack of movement they did at TDL. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Hamhuis and would love to see him in a Canucks uniform for 3 years. This team is not going to be competitive for the next 3 or 4 years, so why not have a leader mentor the up and coming young kids on D. Hamhuis for 3 years a 3.5-4 million. Full NTC in first 2 years, limited NTC (10 teams) in final year. |

The morning after.
I think Canucks screwed up yesterday. 100 pages 2500 posts in 24 hours hints that I am right.
Twitter and the Airwaves were screaming Fire Benning Fire Linden.
But the biggest indication that we screwed up was that resident troll PHucker was back posting in his glory. That is how I know things have gone really bad is when he comes here to gloat. Then you know you are at Rock Bottom .
I think yesterday we took a turn called Jumping the Shark Tank from the sitcom Happy Days.
We have run out of ideas so we will bring back the aging Dman to build a bubble team even though we could have had 17 mil in cap space and a roster spot to fill with a proper RHD.
Canucks youth movement took a kick to the nuts yesterday. Today is another day. - VANTEL
From the outside looking in its puzzling...I get the not trading as there was very little market as evidenced by so little movement..
What i find strange is in interviews Hamhuis kept saying over and over "I want to stay here""Want to play here again next year".Has he been promised a contract for next season no matter what?
Given his stance on remaining a Nuck wouldn't one think that it scared away the little market there was in maybe teams felt he wouldn't give 100% if he really didn't want to leave..
Given recent success do the Nucks really want to continue locking up this core?
