many rankings have Chyrchun from 2-5 I dont agree with that, good things usually come by taking the best defencemen in the draft. the old adage of taking a defence too early is wrong imo, canucks need a blue chip d man prospect, they should take the best one they can get in this draft. Look at Ekblad, jones hanifin, Chyrchun wont be available at 5/6/7 the top rated dman usually goes in the top 3 these days. We've oicked Virtanen, McCann, Boeser, I dont want another fringe forward - Crazybagoham
WE neeed top end talent period. Im leading the charge on getting better defensively but I dont think drafting someone ahead of where they should be taken is the way to do it. If we draft at 5 and get chychrun I have no problem but if we take him over the top 4 its a mistake. |

I probably missed the explosion of hate towards JB already, which I'm fine with. Everything I read is that Vrbata pretty much handcuffed JB and Dallas simply chose Russell over Hamhuis(great blog Carol). I wish something went down, but JB seems like a hard worker to me, if it couldn't happen without him getting way under value which hurts his integrity with the other 29 gm's in the league ,then fair enough. Definitely hope he does a lot of shaking and moving at the draft. |

Better to have them under control than risk show me contracts at young ages. - Nighthawk
Look at that list, are any of them getting top 6 minutes other than Sven, don't worry they won't hit it out the park and become the next Gaudreau. Asset management asset management asset management.

I think regardless, they should pick the highest rated defenceman they can get, Chyrchun if we are 2/3 ....Sergachev if we are lower. We have no room for any more forwards. - Crazybagoham
Of our 46 contracts we have.
10 C
9 LW
7 RW
16D
4G
We don't need more D prospects just better ones. |

After Russell trade, #Stars went back to Van & offered a higher pick than what they gave Cgy + prospect. It's believed Van didnt return call - hillbillydeluxe

Linden is soft, pretty obvious... Do you think that there's any GM or hockey guy in the world that wouldn't accept a call on deadline day?? If it's true Vancouver didn't answer there's no way in hell ownership wasn't the reason the phone wasn't picked up from Dallas |

So who would you think is a better GM, Tallon who essentially built the Hawks or Benning? Tallon gave away Brandon Pirri, 22 goals last year for a 6th rounder today because its better to get something back for something you don't value much for anymore. Why wouldn't Jim take a flyer on Pirri for a 6th or 7th rounder since our picks higher than Anaheim?
Get something back for the UFA's we went through this last year and he still hasn't learned.

saw it on the interwebs, so must be true
I don't believe it for a second, business is business, if there was a deal that would have really helped the Canucks, ownership wouldn't have nixed it, Canuck ownership sees the empty seats, money talks... sounds a little far fetched to me.
If the Stars offered scraps to JB and he said no, I'm okay with it.

Why is it a mistake? I'm pretty sure that we won't know until 3-4 years from now whether or not these guys will be big or not. Before the season Chychrun was rated #2 to Matthews. While I agree drafting Laine is a good choice too, I think its justifiable to draft Chychrun over Tkachuk, not many 17 year old d's make team Canada WJC and that's what hurt Chychrun's stock most. IMO it's a mistake not to draft Chychrun at 4 or 5. |

but Benning has said they are going to build their team through the draft, so wouldnt that reason they arent picking BPA, but rather for need? I just think Chyrchun might be more valuable to us than the fins/tkachuk, even if we are picking at 3.... but man regardless we'll get some talent.
Honestly I dont see us drafting that high, we'll be 5-8 considering our luck, and our roster is a bit better than some (my mind goes to Arizona/Calgary who I think we'll end up with more points than) these last 3 months now that we are keeping Vrbata/hamhuis (sigh).
My bet for top 5 picks:
1=Toronto
2=Edmonton
3=Calgary (they sold a lot)
4=Buffalo
5=Arizona
then I think it's going to be your Vans/CBJs/Winnipeg who didnt really get any worse in that 6-10

The top 3 are much further a head. If we took him at 4 it wouldnt be the end of the world but some people dont even think he is the best dman in the draft. We have multiple holes on the team. We need two top 2 dmen prospects and a first line. Although boeser looks like he could slot in there. THis team simply has many holes. |
