This is true, and it made me overly optimistic in December.

They are better than their record indicates, but they haven't played well enough to get a record the indicates how much better they are. So I have concluded they may be better, but they are not yet quite good.

In December alone they lost 5 games by one goal (DET, CGY, NJ, CHI, NYI). They could have gelled from there, but they spit the bit.

The nuts didn't have the guts.

They already have more points in 60 games than they did in each of the past 2 seasons after 82 games.

That is a pretty good barometer to measure their improvement. You have to suck to get better.

Are they a playoff team right now... no.

Are they guaranteed to be contenders next year... no.

But I don't know a ton of teams that improved 20+ pts from last year already with 20 games in hand.

Here's to hoping they improve another 20+ points again next season.

This team is VERY young and inexperienced in their roles.


They haven't gotten how to "play" full games every night and on consistent nights.

They have a bad first period or a bad middle period. They can't rise against bad teams. whatever the problem.

They are lacking consistency right now. Time in a new system under a new coach with more than 60% roster turnover is only cured by TIME.
