Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Day as the Fallout Continues From the Trade Deadline With fans still in an unroar over the failure to move Dan Hamhuis at the trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks get back to work on Tuesday night as they face the New York Islanders at Rogers Arena.

Another great article! I always am impressed about how nonbiased your articles are, you always do a piece on the visiting team (it's nice to know what's going on with the other team if I cant keep up). While i am not a fan of the Veys/granlunds yet maybe some chemistry will show with these new types of lines, least WD is trying something new so I can regain some faith in him :p hoping hamhuis has an amazing last couple of months and gets a great deal in free agency from a real contender, he seems like a nice guy.

Management needs to move on (so do I) from this, and focus and jettisoning the remaining Mike Gillis NMCs this summer.

abandon hope, all ye who play here.

@ hambag, re Vrbata's playing time.

It wasn't working anymore. WD would get crucified for not switching it up if he hadn't.

One thing with the Sedins is the other winger has a shelf life. Things click for like 5-10 games and then get stale (or other teams catch on to game plans).

Vrbata wasn't working, even on the PP (i seem to recall plenty of PP1 time for V).

Hansen caught fire and deserved to stay up there.
That line has stalled now too and needs a shakeup again.

It's too bad Burrows is a shell of his former self...I would like to try a yougin' up there for a good chunk of games (5-10) to see if chemistry is there...maybe JV, Grenier, Etem?

Or just shut down henrik and put JM on the top line for a bit.

What a nightmare.....I can't think of an NHL team that's in a worse spot than the Canucks right now

The only two elite players are in their mid-30s, and have huge contracts that can only be traded as a pair

A couple of decent youngsters (Virtanen and Horvat), but neither projects to be a game-changer

Two disgruntled vets (Hamhuis and Vrbata) whose trades should have represented the kick-off to a lengthy rebuild are still on the team

Yikes

Serious question. If a guy has a limited NTC is there a time frame you have to follow when you ask for a list of teams?

I kind of miss the gruffness and no nonsense Burkie.
I'd take that over the show your hand and wait for a deal to land on your lap JB that we saw yesterday.

New plan.

win draft lotto.
Draft Austin

Fire WD, hire Crow.

poach Burkie to act as Asst GM and manager of trades and driving people to airports.

edited for posterity

Only issue is that most of the young wingers(Virtanen, Etem, Baertschi, etc) are all players who are good off of the rush, not great in the cycle.

I think Horvat would be a beast with the Sedins on the 1st PP unit. He's really strong in the cycle and our best forward around the net.

I would imagine that would be up to individual GM's. The time frame might be structure differently for different team depending on how they approach those things. Just my guess.

Okay JB, you didn't get it done yesterday. Maybe next year don't wait till the last minute to finish your homework.

You want to win back the crowd? Just pull a Toronto and give the Sedins the rest of the year off, play Miller every night, and put Weber back on defence in place of Hutton. Top 3 pick and you're back on top, baby!!!

From what I understand most contracts with NTCs have it written in that July 1st the players provide their list of teams.

I heard a stat once when AV was still playing, about the Sedins line mates, back when Burrows was the most consistent with them, and it showed hansen as 2nd but he almost always fizzled out after 10 games, yet WD has left him there for months, his shot% is like 20% its insane.

I love the McCann idea, if Sutter were healthy I'd say make him our top center with mcCann on the wing with dank, then shut him down. But I find it weird that McCann wasnt given a real 10 game shot with both sedins.

Dank-Hank-McCann
Baertschi-Horvat-Hansen

good mix of vet/defensive responsibility and some flash.... insert young guys with the established vets. Like Domi/Duclar with doan, or panarin with kane.... instead willie "likes 4 lines' and "wants to get Vrbata/burrows going" very strange. least thats my take on it all
