I liked the analogy that Russell leading the league in blocked shots means he sucks. Makes sense to me.

The shot blocking stat is worse than plus minus....and to some extent defensive zone hits. Control the play and you won't have to block any shots.

This is why I like Corsi (as much as I like any stat)- It's about preventing shots from happening, not blocking them. I also think possesion numbers tell you a lot too, Russell is not a great player in that kind of a set-up. But they like his rugged play and shotblocking... maybe pierre mcguire works for the stars as a scout?
