Was thinking if one of these teams has a couple big injuries on defense it would be a good time to waive Sbisa and hopefully a team feels they have to pick him up for the playoffs. Id waive Vrbata too if I was FA just to save myself a few bucks especially with all those empty seats hurting the bottom line. |

This is why I like Corsi (as much as I like any stat)- It's about preventing shots from happening, not blocking them. I also think possesion numbers tell you a lot too, Russell is not a great player in that kind of a set-up. But they like his rugged play and shotblocking... maybe pierre mcguire works for the stars as a scout? - neem55

Sven Baertschi with his most ice time as a #Canucks - finishes the night with 17:35. Led team with 5 SOG & tied for most hits with 2. |

Dude.... Sbisa isn't that bad. He's an effective 3rd pairing who is a very solid PK'er and clears the front of the net pretty effectively. |

No problem with the player as a 5/6 but his contract is not good at all. Would rather see Pedan out there at 800k than Sbisa at 3.6. |

Biega had more ice-time than Sbisa (14:11)....apparently Desjardins didn't like Sbisa tonight. Probably just found out he played for Lethbridge not Medicine Hat. |

That is exactly the point.

Sorry but this is a silly comparison, when Sbisa signed that deal Benning had no concrete evidence Pedan would be an NHL regular. In fact he still doesn't! |

Canucks will have over 15mil in cap space next year.... don't know why people get worked up over Sbisa's contract. He's effective player and has shown improvement from last year.
that being said I think this summer might be the time to deal him. Edler and Hutton have past him as LHD.... if we resign hamhuis he's clearly the 3rd pairing guy and Pedan would be the spare. |

We cant expect to be even remotely competitive until the defense is completely rebuilt. I really like the suggestion earlier today of Edler for Hamonic. We would still need a young (25 and under)top 4 dman. Could Hansen get us something of value to help round out the top 4 even if we have to add? I dont know but as it stands now we are in trouble. We have to target the top college and europe UFAs in hopes we find another Tanev that eventually slots in there. |

Not comparing deals just looking at clearing cap space. The more space the more flexibility it gives you to sign players or take on players that teams have to give up if the cap drops.
I know he hasnt played enough but at the same time he is our best dman in utica playing lots also why I wanted Bart, weber and hamhuis moved so that we could see what we have in him for next season because we cant send him down without going through waivers as of next season. |

Can never have enough cap space. If the cap drops a couple million some teams will be giving players away for next to nothing. Like with Boychuk, leddy, sharp and oduya. That might be the most effective way to improve the defense. If the cap drops no one will be taking sbisa thats why if a team is in trouble and we waive him we could gain that extra space.
Just a suggestion but this summer will be very interesting if the cap comes down and the nucks and leafs are 2 teams who will be able to make some moves. |

With only Edler, Tanev, Hutton, Sbisa and Biega signed for next year, I suspect you'll see changes back there. That said, top four dmen are really hard to land. |

There really isnt any top 4 guys to sign who are UFAs. We basically will have to hope a team like the Ducks has to give up one of their guys if the cap comes down. It doesnt look good for getting a top 4 i know. |

Scooby special tonight. The Canucks played well, the game was reasonably entertaining, but they still lost.
It was nice to see the D put some pucks in the net. |

Its the only way I see us being able to improve quickly.
Does anyone know when the new cap number comes out? |
