From what I understand most contracts with NTCs have it written in that July 1st the players provide their list of teams.
- jfkst1

Are they allowed to change their teams at anytime? I just assumed that no list was given until the GM asked for one. Also wonder how long a player is typically given to come up with a list.

I would think they would always have to have a list of whatever number of teams handy at any time, would depend on the contract and how strict the NMC is I woud guess

I heard a stat once when AV was still playing, about the Sedins line mates, back when Burrows was the most consistent with them, and it showed hansen as 2nd but he almost always fizzled out after 10 games, yet WD has left him there for months, his shot% is like 20% its insane.

I love the McCann idea, if Sutter were healthy I'd say make him our top center with mcCann on the wing with dank, then shut him down. But I find it weird that McCann wasnt given a real 10 game shot with both sedins.

good mix of vet/defensive responsibility and some flash.... insert young guys with the established vets. Like Domi/Duclar with doan, or panarin with kane.... instead willie "likes 4 lines' and "wants to get Vrbata/burrows going" very strange. least thats my take on it all

- Crazybagoham

I was suggesting sitting Henrik, who seems to be nursing a nagging injury, but playing with McCann would be interesting.

I read a lot, it looks as though no one on Vrbata's list was even willing to give a draft pick for him…he's that ineffective this year. A shame.

As for Hammer, I feel for the guy, disappointed a deal couldn't have been made as we (Benning) could've used an extra pick. I think he's great at the draft, although yet to be proven.

Add Hamhuis to the list of defensemen Jovanovski, Mitchell and Ohlund who've walked away for nothing. Please don't re-sign him Benning!!!!

I gotta think that players can only amend their list on July 1st or shortly thereafter, otherwise players could just flip and flop back and forth to jerk the GM/organization around.

I think they change it every season on July 1st. For example:
Kessel had 8 teams last season of PHI, PIT, MTR, NYR, TBL, BOS, CHI, LAK. After the trade it is speculated he changed PIT out with TOR.

It was a short list, which makes you wonder how many of those teams were non-contenders. If you really don't want to move, you can give 10 teams that are out of the playoffs.

I meant these lines before our ill fated "playoff run"
I'd rather see our glut of young centers play than Henrik wreck his back again (that's what I think it is, like datsyuk) and come back healthy for a real run next fall

who'd you play with McCann/Dank? hansen? I'd do something off the wall like etem or something :p

I'm with you, Vrbata has proven through the market he doesnt deserve to be playing in the NHL, I'd healthy scratch him for the remainder, maybe bottom 6 stuff.

Benning stated yesterday that he gave them a good list of teams, not ones that he couldn't make a deal with, but no one was interested. Although conversations took place.

Right. Like Kessel did with his list. He put teams that couldn't afford him and in the division so Toronto wouldn't trade him there. So 8 teams or less can be close to a full NTC if the player wants it to be.

The difference being we were chasing a playoff spot the years we let those guys go (i think). That's why this one hurt more.

Oh well. That BobMac interview spelled it out pretty clearly i think.
A number of factors at play and not all JBs fault.
NMC, market dynamics, other team's decisions all came into play.

If he can't score he's pretty much useless.

You'd have to think he could help out a PP out there however.

i would think that vrbata absolutely wanted to be moved so probably provided a decent list.

however, given his style of play, lack of production and age, contenders wanted no part of him at the cost of a draft pick.

put it this way, in 2007-12, would you have wanted a 35 year old vrbatta who was having an absolutely sh!t season. you have to remember that vrbatta is not a bottom 6 fit so a team would pencil in to the top 2 lines?

does that sound feasible? and if someone would want him, would they want to give up a pick or try to dump some prospect/player, they've already given up on?

Ya he's just a pure special teams guy now IMO. He's not a hard player to play against like an Andrew Ladd, that's what you need in the playoffs.

Appearantly Chicago was planning to give Marko Dano and 1 round pick for Dan Hamhuis but nope, Benning prefers no picks at all and let all the UFA walk free this summer for nothing

Doubt that happens. Would be the first time a player's value actually stayed around the same as a UFA instead of a rental player.

Wasn't' Hamhuis traded about three times in the summer before he signed with the Canucks? Ha too funny….everyone knows he wants to stay in Vancouver so why trade for his rights. Don't see it happening.

There is no way that's true. Zero chance the Hawks would offer that much for Hamhuis
