How? - Nucker101
Maybe someone will be interested in negotiating rights. If they aren't going to bring him back, I'm sure there are plenty of teams who will be looking to sign him in the off season. |

Trade him in the summer for a 4th rounder. - 1970vintage
once bitten, twice shy?
weren't hammer's rights passed around more than a joint at a phish concert last time?
the ufa d market is thin so it is still possible, but it seems that hamhuis is a guy who will pick where he wants to go and stick with it. i don't think teams see him as a guy who they can "convince."
i hope you're right though. |

If he can't score he's pretty much useless.
You'd have to think he could help out a PP out there however. - golfingsince
I don't believe he can. He certainly doesn't help our PP and playoff teams are obviously deeper so there is no way he would crack PP 1 |

Appearantly Chicago was planning to give Marko Dano and 1 round pick for Dan Hamhuis but nope, Benning prefers no picks at all and let all the UFA walk free this summer for nothing - BeatStriker
If you listen to the Bob McKenzie interview this morning you'll hear him say there was never a 1st round pick from Chicago in any Hamhuis deal, but they were offering Dano, whom Benning is apparently not high on.
Hawks were all in on Ladd to shore up that LW spot in their top six, the first was always to go get Ladd.
It was a lower pick and Dano. |

No team is trading a 4th for Hamhuis' or Vrbata's negotiation rights. They would have been dealt yesterday/last week if they were that hot of a commodity.
Teams will wait and take their chances after July 1 with those two. |

Wasn't' Hamhuis traded about three times in the summer before he signed with the Canucks? Ha too funny….everyone knows he wants to stay in Vancouver so why trade for his rights. Don't see it happening. - LeftCoaster
If he Canucks choose to go in a diff direction/ younger his rights should have value. It's a horrendous UFA D class this aummer |

Absolutely…
Vrbata has no value and every other GM knows Hammer wants to stay in Vancouver so why trade for his rights. |

NTC are interesting and altho I am by no means an expert, here are some things I have found about it:
If you have an NTC, you don't have to provide a list of teams, ever.
If you have a partial NTC, the terms of when and where you can move are structured with the contract, altho a list of teams may be chosen at a later date. For example, if the team wishes to move a player, the player must provide a list of teams within the time frame provided on the contract.
NTC can kick in or end at a predetermined time during the contract negotiations. Such as protecting the first or last few years of a contract.
NTC does not follow you from team to team. There was an incident with a defensemen and the Islanders regarding NTC after a trade. The Isles traded for Lubomir Visnovsky from Anaheim, but Visnovsky felt he had an NTC from when he had his contact signed, with LA. Go read the Wiki article for Lubomir Visnovsky to get a better explanation.
That last one, I am sure agents took notice and found measures in contracts to prevent this from happening but, I believe I have seen this happen one or two more times in the past 8 years.
Players like Hamhuis earned the right for an NTC and paid for it by exchanging money for security. I would gladly have Hamhuis back, even with a full NTC, if the dollars were right. I have a feeling that Hamhuis could sign at or below his current value with the Canucks, retire a Canuck at 36 or 37 and become part of the front office or coaching staff in time. He is a solid player with respectable values and someone who the team could use as a mentor in the future.

Yeah, Nashville traded him to Philly I think who then traded him to NYI maybe? If at the end of the year JB tells Hamhuis that he isn't bringing him back, then what? Find out where he would be interested in playing, call them up and say hey. |

Until Benning says "we're not interested in re-signing Hamhuis" his rights have no value. Although I just read him say they have some appetite to re-sign him. |

I think Vrbata will have a hard time getting a new contract from anyone, maybe Arizona...
Hamhuis will still be a sought after commodity on July 1. If you want to wine and dine him before July 1 you'll have to go through the Canucks. This is assuming that they don't want to bring him back, I have no idea if they do or not. |

Contracts are a two way street. Do the Canucks want Hamhuis back? At what cost? Would they offer a NTC again after what just went down? |

yeah - i can't see a team taking a chance until july 1.
but before that, the opportunity to me for the nucks is that the guy (and more likely his wife) seems to really want to stay in vancouver.
idk, but seems like benning has all the leverage in contract negotiations. he should offer hamhuis a very discounted deal to stay.
time to move on from not trading him and take advantage of the opportunity.
not the worst thing to have a good veteran around on a cheap deal as you bring youth up. |

Or it was Dano plus salary (Bickell)
and perhaps the Dallas offer was a pick plus Hemskey.
That's my interpretation anyways. At the presser when asked, JB says he didn't think the offer's made sense...draft picks make sense, taking on salary is harder to digest. |

pretty sure maloney will give vrbata a deal.
$3.5m for 2-3 years is my guess.

I hope they don't' re-sign him and get a pick for him at the draft. Lots of moves happen at the draft. Not for UFA guys rights but lots of movement.
