Your chart is from 2013-2016! Not a true reflection of Corsi. Try 2015-16. - StaziakAttack
It's a sample size issue. The larger the sample size, the more accurate the data. Cal O'Rielly has the highest scoring rate out of any of our forwards right now but it doesn't take a genius to realize that is useless data

I agree that it doesn't tell the whole story, but if we are going to bash Bogosian, praise Pysyk, then Risto deserves his fair share of criticism.
He's not making nearly the amount of plays he was to start the year.
Part of it is fatigue, part of it is teams catching on that he's our #1 defensemen, and game planning for him - sbroads24
He absolutely does, and my criticism is bolded line. I think he's just got a harsh reality of how much better his conditioning will need to get if he's going to be our #1 going forward. That and learning to pick his spots better with jumping up in the play offensively especially with the other teams top line out. |

The fact that he is only 21 is what saves him. He still has time to get better. And the benefit of the HERO chart is that it takes all possession data relative to the teammates he plays with. For example, Risto's Corsi relative to his teammates is a -2.9. Gorges is -1.9. While neither number is pretty, Risto is actually bringing Gorges down, not the other way around as most would have guessed. - MattFreaknEllis
55 is right there in the cluster. Not helping but not dragging. |

I'm not trying to say Risto is a bad player. I love him. I'm just saying he's going to have to get a whole lot better at 5v5 play if we are going to contend with him as our top defenseman - MattFreaknEllis
Funny thing is save for perhaps the odd stinker from the team Ive noticed a bump in risto's possession numbers in the 2nd half.
Last night he matched up agains the Hall line and was a + |

I'm not convinced it is just conditioning. There are a lot of times we are hemmed in our own zone where he just seems kind of lost. I do think his best attribute is 1v1 when he takes the body (speaking of which did anyone see McCabe stand up McDavid??). However the lack of speed and getting beat to the outside could be explained by general fatigue |

That's great to see. I hope he improves. I'll be honest I didn't check the possession from that game, moreso the season as a whole |

Oh there's a positioning element too but I meant for the duration of an 82 games season + playoffs. If he wants to be an effective/consistent #1 the fitness has to get better |

2/3 of your sample size is playing on a team trying to lose. Do you think Keith or Seabrook would have good #'s on the Sabres from 2013- 2016. |

My favourite was the pittsburgh game. I didn't watch the game, everyone told me he was terrible. I checked the possession numbers. Dude owned Crosby every time the two were on the ice.
Even at the beginning of the year I recall a game where he had held the triplet line from Tampa at bay and everyone was screaming for his head on a pike, I don't get it. |

Yes, because the data is taken relative to the guys on the ice with him. If he truly was an elite possession player, he would consistently have +Relative corsi numbers. Risto has negative corsi numbers which means he is bringing down the team's possession even when playing with "lesser" hockey players |

Ed Snider is not the owner of NBC, buddy
Comcast Spectacor and Comcast SportsNET are both regional and Snider sold the majority stake to Comcast, which acquired a majority stake in NBC - YuenglingJagr
"Hey buddy" the owning nbc was said in tongue and cheek hence the dumb emoji things...if you dont think comcast, comcast spector, comcast regional , comcastmyass etc etc has a hand in nbc universal, nbc studio, nbcflyersstillsuck etc etc then...um okay |

I don't think his skill set will ever make him an elite possession player. I think that's the kind of D partner he needs to play with. Let that guy be mr posession and you take care of the whole bash bodies into boards, clear the crease, one timer goal etc.
you know, the easy stuff. |

If you look at Corsi relative to quality of competition, he actually has positive numbers
Pysyk actually has negative due to the fact that he faces such easy comp. |

I still don't understand why the analytics community doesnt value QoC, especially when you consistently see them for 25 mins a night.
On the other hand I wish they would start taking Corsi data for 5 man units, could help explain a lot of things at both ends of the ice. |

Because there is this false narrative that if you play against better comp. You play with better teammates, so it evens out.
It's total BS.
Another analytic whipping boy Tyler Myers has positive Corsi rel. to his competition |
