Marwood last blog.
Who would I bring with all the cap space?
Well Edler is your top pair LHD at the moment
Hutton has surpassed Hamhuis in minutes played , points and top spot in Edlers absence.
We have Sbisa Pedan also under contract who are LHD.
I would fix the right side and which is currently Tanev Biega and Larsen.
I would look to upgrade Biega with Gryba same salary range . I would look to make a trade for second pairing RHD , someone with an offensive upside.
I could look at a possible offer sheet if there was an unprotected RHD offensive prospect. If I had to give up a first second and third in 2017 , I would be ok with that. For that we need our favourite player. Mr. Cap Space.
It is also possible we draft or have drafted a RHD. Some of those kids have decent numbers in jr and size.
I would not offer Radim Hamhuis a contract more than a year , seeing we already seen the headaches of moving him , and the want from other teams of our old players.
Understood that you would , I wouldnt , and I doubt Benning does seeing he has already said he wants to see what other options are available this summer. - VANTEL
Barrie, Jones, Trouba, Dumba, Gudbranson, Ceci would be the likely candidates and I imagine you would have to offer 6+ to get most those guys.
Hard to lose 3 picks when the team could be looking at the lottery but I could see it being worth it for a couple of those players.

I'm not a fan of Radium and would not offer a contract, Hamhuis I'm up in the air, I'm not a fan of Edler or Tanev, and as you have pointed out in numerous other blogs, all 3 back is not a change for the better. So I'll have to be happy with who they keep and hopefully trade for.
I'm interested to see Pedan and this Tree fellow, but there's no guaranties either will be NHL proven, but give them a reasonable chance. - Makita
This is the point. Edler Tanev Hamhuis is a soft D to play against. They have very little offensive skills. All three do need to be changed and we have our first out in 20 games when Hamhuis expires.
Hutton has stepped in very nicely to make the replacement at a quarter of the cost. It's now time to look at upgrading Edler and Tanev |

Hoping Hutton makes the extended roster for North america, even as a #7 I think with his 19 points as a rookie, should be in the conversation at least. Though Goetisbehere (I think i got that right) wasnt included in the first 4 so I guess we'll see.
Hoping gaunce lights it up tonight, prove management they are dumb for keeping him down since training camp. |

I like the Burke approach.
Merely threaten and blackmail the possibility of an offer-sheet to coerce a trade.
Burke-"Look buddy, i don't really care what you want or need, you can either take my first three picks and lose him or you take a pick or two and a roster piece/prospect, either way, I'm taking him from you. Now what are you going to do?"
GM-2 "Awww". |

Someone should send this clip to Gulutzan or whoever's in charge of the Canucks' power play. They could use that strategy. Henrik off the half wall to RH D who shoots while Edler or Hutton has gone to overload the front of the net. The 3-4 options they have now are pretty stale and predictable. |

Hard to acquire guys through RFA without over-payment, and like you say loss of valuable draft picks. Teams will match unless they are too tight to the cap and Canucks dont have the assets to acquire via normal trade. |

Lots of guys will be ahead of Ben on that list, I imagine. Trouba, Hamilton, Severson, Ceci, Dumba, Parayko. |

I'd offer sheet Gudbransen, he's the type of top 4 we need. I'd over pay on an offer sheet. |

There were rumors of Barrie being available because of his contract demands so maybe they would take the picks over a big salary. Ceci and Trouba play on teams with internal caps as well and the teams might now be willing to match. The wild will be up against the cap but Dumba at 6 million, |

tbh I still think bruins won, I always expect a bigger game from hamilton, he's not gritty enough for his size. Not sold on him yet. |

I agree, right deal for both teams I just dont think Vancouver is really in the position to make that kind of deal. Calgary had/has a good D-Core while Vancouver has more holes it needs filling. If they draft well or can acquire someone to improve this season, I would be ok with going the RFA route the following season |

Picks from offer sheets would be next years picks, you can't offer sheet a player until July 1st. |

Jones ?
I would target Minnessota's 2 young D
Dumba and Brodin.
See if there is a way to pry either/or. |

yup.
they have a lot of money tied up on the backend.
Ryan Suter $7,538,461
Jonas Brodin $4,166,666
Marco Scandella $4,000,000
Jared Spurgeon $5,187,500
I guess it depends who they value more and/or what they think they can sign Dumba for. |

I'm assuming that this team has the potential to be a lottery pick again the following year. |

Brodin and Tanev are very similar players, Dumba is a high risk/high reward player but I don't see him as a #1 or 2. If you are giving up your first 3 picks and a paying the player a lot then you would have to hope they can become a top pairing guy.
Barrie, Jones and Trouba are the only guys off that list I mentioned that might fit that mold for me and even then I'm pretty hesitant on Trouba and Barrie. |

Jones is going nowhere, Columbus would match all but a stupid overpayment by another team, in which case they'd take the 4 first rounders and laugh their asses off |

I would be looking to trade for Dumba/Brodin. Not o/s. Minni is in a tight spot and i would think you could negotiate something there.
Jones I would o/s, but have no faith that you would get him.
Barrie i'm not that familiar with...so can't comment.
Trouba i'm on the fence on. Might consider a o/s with him. |
