Trade him at the draft. - A_SteamingLombardi
If we could get a good return , you bet. Fla or ANA would make good trade buddies |

I've always been a big fan of Burrows. Everything he's achieved has come purely from determination and hard work. His career has been a true underdog success story. If Ron McLean and the NHL hadn't gone after him with their smear campaign I think he'd be viewed much differently as a declining veteran than how he's thought of now.
But that's besides the point. His play has fallen off the last couple of years and the writing is on the wall for him. What about the following potential scenario? Off season trade to a budget team looking to hit the cap floor. He goes through waivers at start of season and is assigned to an AHL affiliate, and is then promptly loaned to a European team. I believe the NHL team would keep all of his $4.5MM cap hit except for $900K on their books and they'd probably only pay a portion of his $3MM actual cash salary. Anybody know if that would that work under the CBA? It might be a more palatable way to finish up his career rather than going back down to the AHL and riding the buses with kids again. - YeOldTimer
Ya maybe, I definitely don't hate Burr, he's been a great guy. He needs to go though, there aren't a lot of teams trying to make the floor next season (arizona and Wiinipeg) and of those teams they need to sign some young guys. That being said, I'd prefer that outcome to him simply being bought out.

I find it interesting our best Dman Edler did not get selected. Reality setting in. - VANTEL
Your surprised he isn't better than Karlsson, Hedman, OEL, Kronwall, Stralman or Hjarlmanson ?
That's been the case for some time now. |

I don't think anyone will bow out ...and I think anytime there is best on best people will watch ...especially after a summer of no hockey. - Redmile247
the all star game is best on best....
I guess it is different from the all star games tho with players representing their countries, looking at the schedule with some back to backs, I'd expect some injuries... watch this screw up some NHL teams right out of the gate.

If you didn't already dislike william nylander and are a GoT's fan, have a look at his striking resemblance to the petulant king Joffrey

This. Sweden's D is pretty legit. If they are healthy, they should give us a good run this year assuming they are healthy and don't take ephedemenes before the big game. He might be the 7th man though. |

told you it was hard...I see your points exactly and they are totally right.
But, what about this - he had a legit shot, why not take off 3 months off from the family and go for it and while going for it, you also help your current team? A win win right? Isn't that the point of playing pro hockey - get your name on that damn cup?
I want a winning attitude on this team...this is not an office job. This is pro sports, it's about winning, not being a good family guy. - PopCanBong
Yeah I can see people's comments on that side. I just cant be mad or question a player that still respects his family. You hear so much about the Keslers and O'Brien who scum up the nightlife, that its easy to forget that there are some good guys in the league and they are real people. If you are gone for weeks at a time, or you go to a morning skate/practice, then you take a nap then back to the rink at night for your game, your kids and family hardly see you as it is. Tack on another 3-4 months away cant be easy.
The other angle I look at it is that maybe he thinks he is helping some of the guys. We dont know what goes on in the room, but maybe he has taken Hutton or Sbisa under his wing and they talk a lot or review video together? If so, why would he ditch some of the people that could really benefit and build from? Maybe he doesnt want to win at all costs personally, but hes been around Vancouver and followed the Canucks long enough that I am sure he wants to help in any way possible to deliver the Canucks a cup, regardless if he is still around or not |

Tons of good players that didn't make it, no need to hit the panic button yet. I never really ever saw Edler as in the top 6 best swedish D-men in the league anyway? |

I think even if they were resistant and wanted to treat it like the all star game, some pride would sink in. No one wants to embarrass their country. I think the fear of being benched or scratched would motivate quite a few, not to mention everyone knowing Canada is under pressure to win in TO so they need to bring their A game |

I know myself I am not mad at all at DH.
My comments about finding a different option for Vancouver D has nothing to do with TDL.
He has been a class act and he is a family man. My decision is based on for 3 -4 mil , I want a player who gets more than one goal every two years , and or is a lot tougher. |

Both Sedins taken out with season ending injuries, Markstrom pulls his groin. Canucks start the season with a roster of 1st and sophomore players...but the D stays intact because none went to the Worlds. |

It sounds like it will be more competitive than an all-star game and it might not even be an issue for the Team Europe players, maybe they will look at themselves as underdogs?
Not to be a pessimist, but the best players from teams will be there, as soon as an injury or two happen that impacts the regular NHL season, playoff revenue, support could change for the tourney. The grumbling from clubs around players going to the Olympics is bad enough... |

Could you see the outrage if this happened, not just canucks, but any team that could potentially lose a few key players in this tournament.
I will probably watch but I'd rather the Olympics, so I hope it's not a success and the players continue to go to the Olympics. - Makita
yes.
as WhiteLie mentioned, guys will be going from being off in the summer to competing at a high level (0 to 100)... sounds like a recipe for injury.
I'd rather the Olympics, big ice, different venues... |
