You know what else is terrible? They guy that traded for, and then signed MacDonald. - PLindbergh31
Yeah, he shouldn't be the GM any mo....oh, okay.
Someone upthread suggesting that was Hexy, because he wasn't GM until May and the trade and signing happened before that.
Or are we all deciding that when the Flyers were doing that they already had decided to kick Homer upstairs? I'm never sure how deep the conspiracy theories on transition go here. There's so much paranoia. |

Again, a jab calls for a double shot the the head? Players shove all the time, most players don't answer like that.
Much like a clean check attempt doesn't call for a cross check to the head. - jmatchett383
Imagine the outrage if McDavid had jabbed Simmonds in the shoulder and Simmonds responded with a jab to the face |

Hextall is doing a very good job so far. The only mark on his resume is the Hartnell/Umberger trade. I understood the premise of that trade, but it has been an unmitigated disaster. |

You mean like Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent, Bill Barber, Mark Howe, Eric Lindros, Ian Laperriere, Tim Kerr, Reggie Leach, Ron Hextall, Dave Poulin, Pelle Lindberg, Bob Froese, Darren Jensen, Roman Cechmanek, Robert Esche, Brian Boucher, Thomas Eriksson, Simon Gagne, Janne Niinimaa, Joni Pitkanen, Mikael Renberg, Chris Therien, Gene Hart, Fred Shero, and Ed Snider (last 3 not players)? |

I was thinking the same thing. But last night, my friend told me this:
After next season, we will need to give Ghost and one (if not both) goalies a new deal, as well as resigning MDZ if we want to. By then, the extensions to Couturier, Voracek, and (likely) Schenn will have kicked in. That extra $4.6M of cap space saved by the trade will be key at that point. |

And it isn't like Gost is up against chopped liver for the Calder. There's a guy who's changed the Red Wings views on development, a guy whose contributing mightily to a conference leading team, and a guy whose so good he may get it playing only 1/2 a season.
The Calder has been won by a D only 11 times in 99 years. |

When Tyler Myers won it, his biggest competition was Matt Duchesne. If Panarin, Larkin, McDavid, and Eichel had been in that class, he'd have had trouble being a finalist. |

His stats are just so much better than the others. He plays a more Russian/modern form of hockey, which sometimes leads to ugly turnovers. For the most part, though, he helps the Flyers keep possession as they move through the neutral zone. For all of his gaffs, the team is decidedly better when he's on the ice. Going from him to Manning is eye opening. - PhillySportsGuy
Question: can you or anyone think of one other bad play he made? Since he was so bad last game as many have said. Besides the McDavid goal where he accelerated unimpeded from his own zone, which I'm sure someone like Bundy would've halted no problem, what exactly did he do that was bad? Even something little...
Nothing comes to my mind, but I can certainly recall a plethora of smart passes tape to tape, good pinches, a couple rippers from the point, and 1 great read where be busted through the NZ and Schenn slinged it over to him for a tapper that went just wide. I think this backs up your point.
Whatever you think of him, the fact that AMac replaced him on the PP is beyond laughable. He made just as many if not more mistakes than Medvedev last night but was rewarded for them. Medvedev is an easy non-English speaking, 33 yo, soon to be gone scapegoat. |

There were so many oddly muffed shots and passes last night by a number of different guys it was like it was April Fool's and someone had shaved 1/2" off everyone's stick length. |

Yes, we'll likely have some other departures as well. But it means we can use that extra space to bring in other players. Not to say Hartnell will be washed up, but we can likely get a younger/better version of Hartnell for the same amount. |

absolutely. Obviously Columbus by far got the better player and my issue with the trade is I thought thety should have gotten more than a 4th rounder but all in all, having that money come off the cap is huge. |

Would you buyout umberger this summer?
Personally I would. I'm not letting take up another roster spot for another year when there are others ready to push those roles |

Trading a top-60 pick two top-90 picks for a vet doesn't really seem very Hexy, ya know?

I would not. The others you speak of are likely on contracts of less than $1M, so let him stay in the suite all season and be done with him 100% next summer. |

I suspect he'll stay in NY to hang w/ Marc, and eventually Jordan will find his way over there too. |
