The way the entire blue line played last night, you could make a case for sitting all of them. - johndewar

Nothing to discuss. Getting blown out on home ice in the midst of a playoff push to the worst team in the West is pathetic. Move on to Saturday.
I know they had a better 2nd period but Deadmonton had better puck luck. Didn't bother watching the 3rd. Just couldn't cash in on the PP. |

Rough night all around, and a final 40 minutes for Ghost to forget. Couldn't get much going and spent way too much time either in our own zone or shooting into shin pads.
Man, Mason let in a few bad ones on some bad rebound control. Hopefully we can put Neuvirth in next game, he would have done much better.
I'm sure 2Real will be happy that he can do his "haha former Flyer scores against us again," routine.
Can someone explain this to me:
The Oilers get minors to 2 separate players. They should play 2 men short for 2 minutes. Simmonds takes a (bullpoop) double minor for roughing. The Flyers should play 1 man short for 4 minutes. So, what should have happened (if I understand it correctly) is that the Flyers would have a 4-on-3 PP for 2 minutes, followed by a 5-on-4 for the Oilers for 2 minutes. However, they said the penalties evened up and they played 5-on-5 with the 2 Oilers exiting at a stoppage while Simmonds had to remain in the box longer. |

AMac was, sadly, one of their top-3.
Ghost pushed the play offensively and had some real nice breakups (outfought Hall and make a great diving play) but the 2nd and 4th goal were bad plays on his behalf. That's gonna happen to him sometimes. You just hope the good ones outweigh those.
Gudas did a fantastic job of getting beat to the net and picking up no on the Yakupov goal.
Medvedev took bad positioning and turned too late to let McDavid get the outside and cut across.
But yeah, they were all pretty bad. |

Hard to argue with this, however, as bad as they were in the 1st, they were only down1-0 after one. They dominated the 2nd, hit two posts, and caught some poopty luck. It happens, it sucks, but it happens. The problem wasn't last night, rather it was all the obtainable points they pissed away earlier in the season. - BiggE
All fair points BigE. I'm with you. Especially all the points that were pissed away earlier in the season. |

Agreed, they were the better team for 40 minutes and played well enough to win if not for some hard luck. However, at this point, silver linings and moral victories don't matter one bit. |

I bash Schultz, but he was one of our better defenders last night (to my eye). I mean, that makes him a healthy scratch on Tampa Bay/Chicago, but them we are not. |

While Medvedev has had his struggles, shuffling in and out of the lineup can't be helping him - funmaster18
Medvedev is good and one of the few creative players they have on the entire roster. He should be playing every night and should be getting top 4 minutes. He got beat last night. So did Gudas, Amac, Ghost, Schultz and Streit. They were all terrible. I don't understand why Medvedev is singled out. |

Terrible play by Medvedev to get beat by one of the fastest skaters in the NHL...McDavid looks like he might start doing that at least once a game. I still don't think that takes away with what he can do offensively |

Co-signed.
Although, I don't even know what to do with AMac at this point.

I thought the Flyer forwards were a huge culprit defensively. How many times did the Oilers skate through the neutral zone with speed and numbers? Even our good defenders like Couturier were getting caught up ice.
The defenseman were also getting caught flat footed at the blue line. Flyers just did a poor job taking away space from a team that likes to skate. |

Aside from that one play, McDavid was really, really good last night. He doesn't stand out like Bure did or like Ovechkin does, but damn he is a good skater and so good with the puck. |

I actually think Medvedev is pretty good. I was surprised a team didn't try to acquire him for a 3rd. Maybe Hexy just didn't want to move him, but I find that hard to believe. He reminds me a bit of Mez when Mez wasn't hobbled. |

If this season was all about getting Ghost to improve on his defensive zone play, then keeping him with Amac is the right decision.
If they want to actually win games, Amac needs to be moved to the third pair. Top pairing duties should be split between the top 4. Neither pairing should take on the full responsibility of playing against the best lines.

The forwards were a mess defensively. There were a bunch of times where they had to haul ass through the neutral zone to even up odd-man rushes. And yeah, the defenders did get caught flat-footed. They were able to outplay Edmonton only because they're more skilled, not because of effort and decision making. |

I see flashes here and there, but mostly he seems to just disappear at times. However, that being said, I'd take him over the other 3 guys you mentioned. |

What happened to Schenn? It looked like Ghost got tangled up with a player (Maroon? Hall?) and Simmonds came over and leveled the player. Next thing I know, Schenn's on the ground in pain. I know Bill said he tripped, but did he get pushed or just tripped? |

Yeah, but the defenseman are weak as a group. They can't be left to fend for themselves. The gap between the forwards and defenseman was way too large last night.
I also think the Flyers just had some bad luck. The 2nd period was strange. They completely out chanced the Oilers but lost the period 2-0. poop like that happens sometimes. I was disappointed that they didn't come out better in the third. I felt like they just needed one goal and the momentum would swing. Instead, they just seemed to get more frustrated. |

The Maroon goal zapped all of their momentum. If the 3rd, they had a chance when they got the 4-minute PP, but that SHG just put them into zombie mode. |
