I went from feeling great about our chances to pick in top 4 after the first period to feeling like 6th through 8th is a very real possibility...

Only silver lining I guess will be watching Lafs fans cry when they end up picking 4th.

Meh. We're all resigned to picking 4th. Well, here on HB, we are

Sure, Risto might be an early riser...but understand that's abnormal.
- TheIronSheik

It definitely is, not only is he a defenseman, but a Euro defenseman. But I remember Hedman being good early too. I'm not trying to compare, just the other guy that was picked at the top of the draft from Europe that I can think of off the top of my head.

I'm looking forward to many years of the Sabres Leafs hate (frank)s like we had in the 90's. Some of my most memorable Sabres moments came against the Leafs, they were always my favorite games to go to watching the drunk people fight in the Orange/300's. Although the Habs fans were way worse, maybe because there weren't as many as Leafs fans?

The truth hurts. Why do on the buffqlo fans who get mad, don't see the truth. Until they provedifferent, our gm and coaches suck

And all I said was the reporting in this town is as much of a joke.

I personally can't read or listen to them.

IMO Kris Baker and Bill Hoppe are the only guys worth a read.

Anything beyond 4th should be traded
- SABRES 89

I wouldn't mind if we took Chychrun 4th or 5th

It's pretty bad, and Harrington is the worst of the bunch. And not to speak ill of the dead or anything, but Jim Kelly was probably the biggest blowhard of all time though and that's being about as nice as I can be about that man.

Who was it that was critical of the Stempniak trade to Boston?

6 points in 4 games with the new club.

I know what's going on within this team, people still seem to not get it, Murray got rid of players he didn't want. He had no use for Myers and Stafford should have been gone 3 years ago.
- SABRES 89

Just... Don't. You haven't had to listen to him for most of the year. I guess I really haven't either, but I guess I'm just a bit masochistic.

If they pick 5th, take the defenseman.

Any pick prior should be one of the forwards.

Any pick after if the defenseman is gone, consider a trade.

Not too concerned. Most Leaf fans are pretty realistic that we won't get a sniff of the playoffs for a few more years....maybe a year behind Buffalo , 2 at the most. Not a shot, you guys have some great pieces but your D isn't very good.
- TheIronSheik

Only the delusional would take that as a shot. We have one bonafide top pairing guy and a bunch of 5th or less guys. Bogosian is a curious case, he plays a ton and for the amount he plays he doesn't have as negative an impact as a lot would like to try and say. The first goal against tonight was all Risto. Either take the pass or take the shot, you physically can't do both!

Bogosian has been the worst defender in his own end all year. He's had some nice games offensively and you can count on him sticking up for his teammates but ideally with his defensive liabilities he should be playing on the bottom pairing of a good team. Pysyk and McCabe I envision being 3-5 guys in their prime. Gorges is just a warm veteran body right now. Risto should be your eventual 1B or 2 defender. He's certainly going through some growing pains right now though. Getting Churchryn (sp?) at 5th wouldn't be a bad consolation prize should we miss out on top 4.

I'm thinking 8th might be a stretch, but 7th should be easily obtainable. We're already in 23rd passing Columbus, Arizona, and Vancouver tonight. All the teams below us have games in hand except the Oilers, but Arizona is in free fall, Vancouver may as well be. Winnipeg and Calgary are even worse, Columbus is Columbus. And we could even theoretically catch Montreal, they're only 3 points ahead of us and they only have 1 game in hand and have gone 3-5-2 in their last 10. So with our schedule the rest of the way we should be able to catch them or at least come close.

All that makes sense to me
I would be ok if Murray decided Chychrun over Tkachuck though
All of those top5 guys look like they're gonna be really good players

I agree ........... when did he turn into such a punk on the ice? Somebody needs to drop him hard... problem is there's no hitting in the NHL anymore.

A few observations from Row 1 (well worth the price for the first time in...ever)

Kadri=

Reinhart, what a game. Takeaways, passes, positioning he was flat out great

The gap in coaching philosophies was very obvious this game. Most of this we were dominated 5 on 5 by a team with less talent (sort of).

Calgary scores with less than a minute left guaranteed at least a point

Fingers crossed for Vancouver to get at least a point! xxxxx

Reinhart is really finding his groove. I think a big jump from him and Eichel will do wonders

So will a jump from Risto and presumably his new partner. He actually does a really good job at keeping things to the outside, but the hard minutes are exposing his less than stellar puck recovery skills and zone entry preventions. I know a certain Quack who is very good in these two categories.
