Oh, right. If it does end up happening their will be more than a few angry fans. It's why despite high potential i really hate the idea of giving up 1sts for goaltenders. - Sabresfan-365
As he gets more settled in the season (with an admittedly imperfect sample size), Lehner is playing as one of the top 10 goalies in the league. Do you believe Drouin has the potential to be a top 10 winger?
Does the fact that the "currency" exchanged for both is the same make that an apt comparison?
Are there other ways to acquire top 10 wingers? |

1) Yes, talent wise I really do believe that he does (or at least close to it)
2) Sort of. There's no guarantee we would've taken white but it's more of what that prospect could've brought back in another deal down the line (like drouin) I think average goaltending + drouin or his defence equivalent does more for us than Lehner. I maintain that in most cases the goalie is a product of the team in front of him save for the truly elite and the truly awful.
3) Of course there are other ways, but you're not going to like what they ask for. |

Why the hell would we trade a proven goalie who can keep us in close games (God knows we need it since we can't score) for some wet behind the ears hold out who has done nothing in the NHL? |

That's not what is going on here.
The question is whether Drouin is a more valuable trade target than Lehner was. |

He's played very well but please let's not act like he's racked up the playoff wins and trophies for us to start calling him proven. And I don't mean it has to specifically be drouin, just what that pick/prospect could have brought back.

No one will know until he signs somewhere and produces so I say Lehner is/was the better option |

Playing on a team with the worst speed in the NHL, that can't score, and has a terrible defense, yet still puts up top ten numbers despite missing half the season.
No Stanley cup yet but I think the deal is off to a great start |

You kind of just proved my point here. He's played so well and yet he has a losing record, because of these things. You build around one player in net, you become NYR or MTL. You build a great team and it really doesn't matter who plays in net, as long as he's not a total sieve you're ok.
Edit: Its also 10x more fun to watch. |

Or you become the Sabres of Hasek/Miller days. That worked out pretty good I'd say.. no cup but close. |

Kinda apples and oranges. Then we needed a goalie now we need goal scores and D. I like Lehner but still don't like what it cost.. You'd think Uncle Brian would have given us a friends and family deal..
Drouin is risky... I think I'd just prefer we continue with the 1 Goal Stealth tank and see whats available off season. |

Last year we had 3 goalies play at a high level on a poor team.
I am really liking Lehner, but unless he becomes a consistent top goalie (which is possible) I still would have rather used the pick on a forward.
I'm confident that finding a player like Lehner is a lot easier than finding some of the forwards in the NHL

Well you can thank Lehner for not letting the Sabres get Mathews in the draft. |

And last year Murray had to trade 3 goalies to get Eichel because they all played well. |

Think that might have had something to do with Teddy's system? |
