Craig Button was gushing over him this weekend. Talking about him being a top candidate for WHL player of the year (not just d-man but top overall player). Comparison he used was Serge Savard. Thats pretty high praise. Like, really high.
Button mentioned Sanheim and Philippe Meyers separately and touched on Konecny. He is really high on our group. - jak521
I have my concerns about Sanheim-just have this feeling we might be disappointed with him at the NHL level. We'll see about Meyers. Konecny I really believe will be a tougher, more physical danny briere. Somewhat of a hybrid between Briere, Flyers version Mike Richards and Gallagher. The skill, heart and physical play.
But yeah, Provorov might just be the smartest dman in the league when he comes in. Might not be as physically imposing as a Weber or as offensively inclined as EK but he won't make mistakes while driving the play in both ends.

Not permanently, but to get a look. I think Ghosts shot would be deadly on that far circle... - jak521
I wouldn't do it ever because Voracek is a forward and skating backwards isn't a consistent thing for forwards. We would leaving open scoring chances by putting a forward at the top of the umbrella.
I don't think there is a forward in the league who quarterbacks a power play. |

I'm really high on him, but here are some WHL defenseman season records:
MOST POINTS BY A DEFENCEMAN IN ONE SEASON'S PLAYOFF:
34 - John Miner, Regina Pats, (9 goals, 25 assists), 1984 (23 games).
33 - Keith Brown, Portland Winter Hawks, (3 goals, 30 assists), 1979 (25 games).
31 - Darren Veitch, Regina Pats, (13 goals, 18 assists), 1980 (18 games).
- Greg Hawgood, Kamloops Blazers, (9 goals, 22 assists), 1986 (16 games).
30 - Matt Kinch, Calgary Hitmen, (7 goals, 23 assists), 1999 (21 games).
MOST POINTS BY A ROOKIE DEFENCEMAN:
93 - Robin Sadler, Edmonton Oil Kings (32 goals, 61 assists), 1974-75.
92 - Doug Bodger, Kamloops Junior Oilers (26 goals, 66 assists), 1982-83.
MOST GOALS BY A DEFENCEMAN:
50 - Lawrence Sacharuk, Saskatoon Blades, 1971-72.
MOST ASSISTS BY A DEFENCEMAN:
118 - Cam Plante, Brandon Wheat Kings, 1983-84.
111 - Jim Benning, Portland Winter Hawks, 1980-81.
MOST POINTS BY A DEFENCEMAN:
140 - Cam Plante, Brandon Wheat Kings (22 goals, 118 assists), 1983-84.
139 - Jim Benning, Portland Winter Hawks (28 goals, 111 assists), 1980-81.
I would hope he has a better NHL career than these fabulous WHL standouts. Let's at least have him play 1 NHL game before calling him the second best Flyers defenseman ever. - jmatchett383
In his defense, most of those "records" came at a time when the WHL wasnt the greatest JR league. Now, its just as strong (if not stronger) than the other two.
Provorov is going to be special. Its less a matter of if, and more of when. |

That's unpossible. You're supposed to be completely bipolar about this team.
Planning the parade one minute. Hoping for a tank the next.
You're not supposed to enjoy this. |

I won't count this team out until mathematically eliminated. They seem to have a little bit of pit bull in them. |

I'd say that a tougher, more physical Danny Briere would be Mark Recchi.
If Travis Konecny turns into Mark Recchi, I'd say that'd be OK. |

I have no concerns with Sanheim. He will never be the defensive player Provorov should be, but his offensive acumen is through the roof. He has great wheels and puck skills for a bigger d-man, and isnt a liability defensively. There will be a much bigger learning curve for him, but i think J-Bow is a really possible comparison. |

I think he will be as well. But look at Derrick Pouliot, who was an absolute beast in the WHL playoffs 2 years ago. He put up 70 points and then 32 more in the playoffs. He didn't even make the opening night roster the last 2 years and has been an AHL scorer with little to show at the NHL.
Again, not saying he won't be, just that I would like to see him play 1 NHL regular season/playoff game before naming him the savior. |

Well I would argue that the Flyers are QB'd by a forward.
Giroux is the guy everything goes through. Not Ghost. |

my concerns are more just a gut feeling than being based on anything with any real substance. You have to figure one of our top d guys will not turn into what we hope. |

Yes. That was what was said about Pouliot, was just using stats as a barometer.
Again, can we please see him play 1 NHL game before saying he's a better Flyers player than Timonen, Desjardins, Pronger, and both Watsons? |

Im less focused on his offense than I am his total game.
Numbers can be influenced by a lot of different factors at the JR level. What has me especially excited is how great he is a reading and reacting to the in game situations. He is head and shoulders above everyone else. He sees the game so well, is as cool as a cucumber, and makes the right play nearly every time. He is so well balanced in all three zones.. The sky is the limit for the kid. |
