Im less focused on his offense than I am his total game.
Numbers can be influenced by a lot of different factors at the JR level. What has me especially excited is how great he is a reading and reacting to the in game situations. He is head and shoulders above everyone else. He sees the game so well, is as cool as a cucumber, and makes the right play nearly every time. He is so well balanced in all three zones.. The sky is the limit for the kid. - jak521
I agree 100%.
Again, can we wait for the guy to play 1 damn NHL game before saying he's better than Timonen and Desjardins? |

No, where's the fun in that? - orangekrush2010
I'm not trying to rain on the parade, but I would like the guy to play 1 NHL game before we're saying he will be the second best defenseman in Flyers history. There's a chance he won't, and I want to see him play at this level before I even start to consider it. |

Yes. That was what was said about Pouliot, was just using stats as a barometer.
Again, can we please see him play 1 NHL game before saying he's a better Flyers player than Timonen, Desjardins, Pronger, and both Watsons? - jmatchett383
Pouliot was never hyped for his game changing ability outside of his offense. Every scout had worries about something with him... His size, his offense first mentality, his lack of top end defensive abilities.
I remember him being likened to Brian Campbell and a smaller Mike Green. Both great offensive players in their own right.. But Provolone isnt being hyped for his offense. He is being hyped because he is- night in and night out- the most dynamic and game changing player on the ice. |

That list is a list of guys I wish we could see defenseman playing like every night. You just knew when those guys hit the ice on a change things were going to change for that next minute. The Flyers would look a lot more stable for that shift. |

Philip Myers now leads all Q dmen in goals and plus/minus.
Goulbourne scratched for the phantoms
It's really not even debatable at this point. Provorov is a flyer in October. Hextall basically admitted it to the STH. Any and all capgeek lineups for 16-17 season mut must now require provorov. New thread rule.

You're right, they should start making his Flyers HOF banner and working on his HHOF bust right now. Dude's a shoe in to win about 7 or 8 Norris Trophies. Not a chance at all that he won't be a superstar in the NHL for the next 15 years. |

If I remember incorrectly, I apologize. I only saw him play a handful of WHL games, and he seemed like he was on a totally different plane that everyone else. |

That's unpossible. You're supposed to be completely bipolar about this team.
Planning the parade one minute. Hoping for a tank the next.

I wish we had that kind of presence on offense too. I don't remember having a guy who would regularly take over the game every time he came on since Forsberg (when healthy). Briere was great, especially being super clutch in the playoffs but I don't think he had that type of impact on the ice like what we're talking about. More recently, G is absolutely a top player in the league but he doesn't even have that game-controlling impact consistently. |

Figured this would be your retort. Not once have I anointed Provorov of any awards. Not once did I say he will be better than this guy or that guy.. Hell you brought up a comparative player ( a terrible comparison IMO) just to try to lessen peoples expectations.
Only time will tell. Comparing players to other players NEVER makes sense. I am all for a wait and see approach, but that doesnt mean people cant be excited for the kids arrival. I mean, Hextall is even excited.
So, go ahead with the passive aggressiveness because someone doesnt agree with you. Have fun with that. |

He is, and always was, highly touted as an offense first d-man. Provorov has never gotten that. Sanheim is another story. |

Of course it's going to be my retort. If someone says he's going to be the 2nd best in team history (better than Timonen, Desjardins, et. al.) without seeing him play 1 NHL game, then I'm going to say something equally as ridiculous.
Am I excited? Sure. Do I think he'll be an NHL impact player? Yes. Can I say that 100% right now? Not at all. Nothing passive at all about my aggressiveness. I'm putting it out that that, while your expectations can be sky high, he hasn't shown anybody that his game will translate to the NHL over any length of time.
Edit: You never said second best, that was orangekrush or whatever, which is who my reply was directed at. But I still say let's see him play 1 game before anointing him as Jesus part deux. |
